Replacement Noseband for Passier Ingrid Klimke Bridle

Well, I did something stupid yesterday that resulted in my horse spooking with her bridle half off. Naturally, it got tangled in her feet and the leather connecting the noseband to the strap that goes over the crownpiece of the bridle broke right at the stitching at the noseband.

It’s a Passier Ingrid Klimke bridle. I’m looking just to replace the broken piece (will investigate if I can get the original piece repaired, but want something to use in the meantime) and am not entirely sure if this will work:

I also found this:

This looks exactly like what I have, but I am a bit reluctant to order as it’s a European company and I am not entirely sure of what size I need (cob or horse) and figure it will be easier to exchange with Dover if I need a different size. Plus, I don’t use the flash, so the Dover option is better from that perspective.

Any guidance, oh wise COTHers?

I have the one from Dover. It’s going to be wider than the one that looks “stock” on the Ingrid bridle, if that matters to you.

Oh no!! Sorry to hear the bridle broke. We’ve all been there.

Just in case you don’t already know, the Passier Special is different (wider, thicker) than the stock noseband from the Ingrid Klimke - but it will work. You could special order the actual IK noseband through Dover. I think it would take a few weeks though.

Here’s my Ingrid Klimke bridle with the Special Recessed Cavesson. note that it does have some aftermarket modifications - the over-the-poll strap of the noseband drove me crazy so I split it and sewed it into the monocrown - much better imo!

As an aside, my gelding was spitting mad in these photos. I pulled him out in the pouring rain to do trot sets and I had to take a photo for posterity. He kept looking at me out of the side of his eye like “really? We’re going to work in this??” Glad I did so you could see what the noseband looks like. :joy:

You guys are the best. I think I will order the Dover recessed one and give it a try. My girl has a very feminine face so I’m not entirely sure how the wider noseband will look, although I’m willing to sacrifice looks for comfort.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll talk to Dover about special ordering an exact replacement.

And although I’m bummed it broke, I’m glad it did and she got free. She’s 7 months into a suspensory rehab, so the bridle was the least of my concerns. I was more worried when in her panic she ended up jumping over a 110 gallon stock tank. Thankfully she seems none the worse for wear. Her jumping lines stood her in good stead as she very handily jumped it in beautiful form although she was right on top of it. Anyway, I iced her for 40 minutes and gave her an Equioxx in case there was any inflammation. (The Equioxx is a more sure thing with her than Banamine.) And as it happens, my vet is here today to do the next progress ultrasound so I’ll know what’s going on.

I love the horse in the shed trying to be invisible. I can hear him doing the “incognito, nothing to see here” whistle in my head lol

And @beowulf I love the grumpy face. I was riding my mare earlier this week when it started sprinkling the tiniest little bit. She was like “well, obviously we are done for the day!” and walked over to where I dismount. I have to admit that I gave in, as we were already 25 minutes into our 30 minutes of walk rehab.

Oh I have been there! One year had my saintly horse (pictured above) who was rehabbing a medial/lateral collateral ligament rupture decide to exit the stall by jumping right over the wheelbarrow! He galloped down the aisle, exited the barn, and cavorted in 2ft of fresh snow. I think he had a grand old time, but my soul left my body. His rehab progress was thankfully totally unaffected. :joy: Glad your mare got free and only the bridle got the worst of it.

@endlessclimb Haha!! It’s hard to tell from the photos but it was pouring cats and dogs up until right before I got off. I was soaked to the bone even in rain gear. The spine channel of the saddle pad was drenched through (usually that stays dry!). It was quite a downpour but I reminded myself that if I didn’t ride in the rain, I’d be screwed if it ever rained at a competition. Which it does. Every time I go :joy:

Haha, yes, I can see you completely understand. The really great news is that her suspensory showed as completely healed on u/s this morning! Yay! Still doing rehab to strengthen it slowly, but - phew! Such a relief.

The bad news is that Dover doesn’t have the noseband in my size. They are going to see if they can special order it for me. In the meantime, I’ve dug out my PS of Sweden Pioneer bridle that she historically did not really like and will be using that. Will be interesting to see if her opinion has changed, especially as we are also using a different bit than we did when I used that bridle.
