Replacing hay elevator convoyer link

Has anyone had any experiance replacing the link on a hay elevator conveyor belt? Brand is hayrite. Our belt broke yesterday and we know what part we need but could use some advice on how to do it. I have read somewhere there is a tool that helps hold it (we will buy) and was told to just knock it with a sledge hammer.

Its a c like clamp so i assume you would hit from the side away from opening so it starts to go flat so the link can pull through?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Assuming it is the “standard” type and I say that having only worked with a couple and looks like this

Fold one link to a 90+ degree angle to the link you are discounting from and slide it sideways from that link. A little oil will help. Some time you have to “wrangle” with it to get the alignment just right.

I would bet there is a U-tube video showing how it’s done. Search manure chain or hay elevator chain link replacement on the site.

Thank you! The awsome manager at a tractor supply store in md spent alot of time with my friend explaining how to do it and some good maintanence tips.
