replacing the sheepskin on a figure 8.

I recently purchased a cheap figure 8 bridle. The fleece on the nose piece was funky looking, off center etc. trimming it didn’t fix it so I peeled it off.

Now I would like to replace it with sheepskin or a leather or felt disc if I can find one.

has anyone else done this? Thoughts or suggestions?

otherwise I like the bridle. It’s oiling up well and seems good quality for the price.

You can probably find a small piece of sheepskin on etsy (they have many craft suppliers) or ebay (") and glue or stitch it on. NBD, very doable.

Yup, they do sell the little pieces online for pretty cheap. I remember seeing them a little bit ago when I was black friday shopping on smartpak.

Ohhhh this would be handy. The bridle is black however, but I’ll start looking.

I have done this. Friend bought a fairly expensive figure 8, but after a while wear and tear, horse sweat, etc. made the fleece bit pretty funky looking. I got a sheepskin scrap, trimmed to size, and stitched it on. It was actually a bit fluffier than the original, but looked fine.

This thread is helpful; I have a similar problem with a 5 point breastplate. It was cheap, the leather is nice, but the sheepskin is getting gross and it’s not removable.

If you’re really in a tight situation and like the design of this, you could stain the leather carefully I suppose. But probably a safer choice to either have one made at a leather shop or buy one.

Not to hijack, but ok, gonna hijack…lol…
How do you get this on a figure 8 with the rings? One side, yes, but the other side has the buckle that won’t fit through. Ideas? I have one that needs to be replaced. Do I have to send it to a leather repair place, I guess?

My buckle fits through mine when I oil it really well and use a paint can opener for stretch it a little bit. Tight but not impossible.

Horze sells sheepskin scraps. I’m ordering one and going to glue it on the nose pad. Fingers crossed it works!

I’ve been known to use a large Phillips head screwdriver in certain situations…might be worth a try…lol.
