If you missed it, you can find the replay on You Tube here;
Watching the first rider go, I was struck by the design of his helmet. Is anyone familiar with the model and brand? I’m just curious.
Made it to the first Brazilian rider, that horse was light, even took a half step before the third element in that combination and still made it out of there clear and moving on.
What a horse!
I had an arabian that jumped like that and was nice to take you along, not unseat you and leave you hanging on the air without a horse, as that horse seems to do, the rider was not struggling to stay with him when he did that little jig.
Only horse I ever had quite as amazingly handy as this one seems.
Got to go at 24 minutes, will watch more later.
Thanks for the link.
Thanks. That’s different.
It’s an interesting design. I’d be concerned about dislocating my jaw. It must not be a valid concern or the helmet wouldn’t have passed its safety tests…
So worth mentioning that the 2 Folksam studies have each included a GPA helmet. (Not this model in either, I am waiting on Virginia Tech to test this one)
But in both studies the GPA’s did very poorly.

It seems as if the positioning of the side piece so close to the TMJ could be problematic if you landed on the side of your head.
It must have been tested somehow, somewhere, though. The FEI requires a certain standard for helmets, yes?
ASTM in the USA,
For British Showjumping:
(These refer to the company’s parent base of location… So OneK is considered American, even though the helmets are made in China)
British Showjumping
British and European: PAS 015 (2001), VG1 provided they are BSI Kitemarked
American: All SEI ASTM F1163 04a onwards and Snell E2001 and Snell E2016.
Australian and New Zealand: AS/NZS 3838 2006 onwards.

I didn’t watch this replay, but I was there in person. Did they show Eliot Smith’s accident or clip it out? (Speaking of helmet malfunctions…)
I haven’t finished watching yet. They did show the bay horse that left from a long spot and crashed along with his rider. It was Samuel Hutton.
Sorry I’m doing too many things at once here… I thought this was the replay of the Hickstead Derby trial. Ignore me! (Unless you want to discuss that type of helmet flying off at the time when it’s needed most, in that case feel free to un-ignore me)
I don’t mind. Was it the helmet type in question? What happened?
Basically, as he crossed the finish timers, he fell off, landed on his feet and shattered his femur, which sent him stumbling forward, his helmet flew off and he fell headfirst into the stone wall around the ring. It was a horrifying thing to witness.
Oh, that’s terrible. It’s not easy to shatter a femur. The helmet just came off?
It was a similar helmet but not the GPA version, it has a silver stripe around the top. I just checked on CMH, luckily they don’t have that video available (they could have just cropped it to not show the fall, but I digress), but you can watch him jump a class the day before to see the helmet in question.
