Report From ARIZONA!!

This is your roving reporter Inverness checking in from beautiful Scottsdale and Cave Creek, AZ.

I’ve just returned from a 4 hour trail ride in the desert (my 3rd this week) and now sit curled up in a big comfy chair on a gorgeous Mexican tile and adobe portico overlooking the mountains (they really are purple!).

I’ve managed to hook up with a great trail riding center (thank you, thank you DHenley!) and have had 3 marvellous rides up into Maricopa County Park outside of Cave Creek, AZ. The horses are great and we’ve enjoyed several long and FAST canters up and down and around the desert trails. I swear these horses have 5 legs.

I’m riding in an Australian stock saddle for the first time and love it. I’ve been on a great Appy gelding named Cavalier who just lives to canter down the dry creek beds. The folks at the ranch know me well enough now that they let me and Cavalier and one of the dogs go off on our own - we take the “alternate” routes and meet up with the group a mile or two down the trail. I never realized how peaceful and calming riding along on my own can be; complete solace.

Well, I’m off to the spa for a facial, darlings. I hope all my BB friends are well – talk at ya’ll later!

You are such a lucky lady! I absolutely love Arizona–what breathtaking beauty. Have you ever seen a bluer sky?

So happy the riding is working out, but did you ever connect with Shelby?

Duffy’s back in town

Green here. And not a lovely shade for me

I do actually have to work this morning. However, after I spend all day in a meeting I’ll be going for a sunset trail ride - so there! We broke a record here yesterday; 109 degrees. On the back of horse, I didn’t even feel it!

Yes, DHenley, I did connect with Shelby; what a great woman. She doesn’t have any school horses at the moment, but she and her partner let me come to the barn and hang out to watch lessons for a couple of hours. BTW, she looks just great - you’d never know she’s not feeling her best.

I’ll be returning to soggy, green Virginia tomorrow (we did need the rain, afterall ya’ll). Larosa90, you must tell Billy that Cavalier, sweet as he is, has not stolen Billy’s spot as number 1 horse in my heart. Give him a big smooch on the nose for me (and a carrot, if Jordan will allow it).

Oh, Inverness, you just gave me chills and tears hearing that Shelby looks well. Isn’t she absolutely amazing? I miss her so much.

Isn’t Pretty Penny a cool place?

Isn’t Az wonderful? Dwayne and I are thinking of moving to Tuscon, you know, HITS AZ!!! It’s so much cheaper than the Bay Area, that is for darn sure!!!

Inverness, I’m having trouble thinking of anything to post to you because I am choking with jealousy. Arizona is one of my favorite places, and, as you may know, the place where I rode my first horse since a few times as a teenager. You have yourself a wonderful time, but, don’t forget to come back!

I think I hate you, Inverness!

I dunno Inverness - all this fun AND a change in majority leaders me thinketh your cupeth hath runneth over

While you’ve been basking in the great western sun, we here in VA have been the subject of tornadoes and rain by the bucket full. I dared not wade out to see Billy lest I not be able to negotiate the lake between the barns twice.

Today it was sunny and brilliant and more is expected tomorrow. Then, in honor of your return and planned showing debut, it is supposed to rain again.

Billy misses you. I hope you will bring him some cactus candy.

And don’t forget that I get to go to Upperville, after all!!!

Inverness - Frogs & Friends Tuesday evening!!!

Good old Cave Creek…Before you leave, you have to hit two fine dining establishments: The Horney Toad and The Satisfied Frog.

No, I’m not kidding and any local can give you directions…Jess

Well it is certain, Inverness has been in the Arizona sun toooo long. You know they are over the top when you here them say, “You know until it gets over 110 degrees, it really isn’t that bad.”

I am so glad you have enjoyed your stay. I have been watching for your report. Maybe next year you can arrange a visit in the winter. Then Arizona is truly appreciated.

“The older I get, the better I used to be.”
