Reputable lesson barn Milwaukee, WI for child

My sister and her family live up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I am not familiar with the area at all! Does anyone have a recommendation for a barn within 40 min or so of the city that is reputable, safe, and provides a great first impression for a non-horsey mum and her daughter?

It would really be her first lesson and first “formal” introduction to horses as they live far away from me and I’ve not seen my nieces much.

I really want to be sure they start off on the right foot!

Looking for eventing/dressage based that will teach the correct basics. Would love a mix of lunge and off-lunge lessons (especially because she doesn’t know yet how she’ll like it or which discipline she’d like to move into eventually). I advised that she start off with a more formal education and then if she wants to branch off into a less rigorous discipline then at least she’d been exposed to a proper foundation. Would appreciate any referrals you can send my way!

You might contact Round Two tack store to get some suggestions. I don’t live there but I travel there often, and that’s about as far as I can get you with info

There are several excellent Saddlebred barns in that area that specialize in starting children. Check these out, I think you will be pleased with the quality of instruction and the safe atmosphere:
Knollwood Farms
Rancho del Rio
Equitate, LLC
Pepper Hill Farm
Highland Ridge Staples

Willow Run. They have a facebook page. Big eventing/dressage barn in Mequon. would be about 20-30mins from city. Also, if you are interested, there are many Pony Clubs in the area. I believe run of the mill is the one closest to milwaukee. Otherwise the racine county pony club is also around!

Awesome, thank you!

second Knollwood, if they would be interested in saddleseat lessons. Great program. As an adult rerider I took a few lessons when I was working in the area.

I took lessons at both Knollwood and Equitate. Both are okay, but personally, i don’t believe they offer a proper riding foundation. You learn how to ride a saddlebred, but not the hows and whys of good dressage based riding. The programs are very focused on youth with lots of shows encouraged. It’s the goal to get the family to buy or lease a costly horse and show show show. Very $$$$$.

My instructor is at this facility http://www.dressagesolutionsllc.com/, and she has several school horses for lessons, one on one lesssons and excellent high qulaity instruction. Oconomowoc is about 20 min west of the city.
