Requesting recommendations for boarding in Lexington, KY

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations for a boarding facility through this winter in Lexington, KY. While I have lived and worked in this area for a while, I’ve never had a horse of my own here. In about a month, I will be having a race horse shipped to me to begin his second career as a fox hunting horse. He is a very good natured, kind and relatively quiet horse in good flesh and soundness who will need minimum let down time after running. I would like to get his training started short after his arrival, before the weather turns cold and maybe he decides he’s not so quiet anymore. I will work with the horse through the fall, winter, and spring then ship him to VA next summer to his permanent home as a hunt horse.

Based on the information above I am looking for a facility in KY that offers basic care (feeding, stall cleaning, turnout, holding for vet, farrier). I am not looking for a fancy show barn, full service care, training rides, or lessons. More of a mom and pop type place that offers personalized care in a quiet environment. I will be out to ride 4-5 days a week but can not be there everyday because of work. A riding ring with a few basic jumps and some hills or fields to hack in are the basic amenities I need. Any sort of indoor ring is a bonus, although strongly preferred.

Apologies for the novel! Any ideas and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I know I have read at least one other discussion here on the forums about someone moving to the Lexington area and looking for boarding recommendations.

Check out Robert Murphy Stables. Busy barn, but good care and has an indoor, decent outdoor, etc.

For more of a show atmosphere (although I know you said not exactly what you’re looking for), I’d highly recommend River Mountain Farm in Versailles.

Cannot recommend Ballyhigh Show Stables and Joyce Brinsfield enough. Right down the road from River Mountain. Ample turnout, indoor, great huge outdoor, riding fields, etc. Joyce herself is extremely accommodating–she’s gotten riders to indoors while still catering to the stay-at-home ammies, and everything else in between.
