Hello all I am new to the forum and was looking for some help almost a year ago my mom bought my dad a rescue horse and he had been handled quite a bit and could be ridden but then my dad broke his neck and this said horse became a pasture pet to my barrel mare and mini donkey. I have recently had the time and have realized he has become quite pushy around food time and has seemed to lose most of his manners. Now I would like to start working with him to where he is safer to be ridden and is more respectful to us around in the pasture. But I have a slight issue because my barrel mare is 14h and he is estimated about 16.2h and since I have never owned or worked with any tall horses he makes me semi-nervous when he starts to act up and i know me being nervous will not help his training. do any of yall have any recommendations for any work to help us in any way i would love any advice.
Can you find an intelligent adult trainer to help you?
What @Scribbler said.
Plus:
Your mare is only ~10" shorter than Mr Big & still outweighs you by hundreds of pounds.
However you make her mind her manners should work with the larger horse.
Who is he pushing around at feeding? Your horse/donkey or the feeder?
If it’s your animals, separate him for feeding.
If he’s being aggressive to you (or whoever is feeding) how? Rushing you for grain? Snatching hay?
Answer depends on how I’d address it, but Large does not scare me.
