Rescue organizations keep puppy mills in business--open vent/rant

I’ve read most of this thread and think some folks are missing part of the OPs reasons for wanting a puppy now:
She had a big chunk of time off coming up very soon, so she’d be able to be home with a new puppy 24/7 for bonding, socialization, acclimation and beginner training. Which makes a lot of sense, home and not having to travel with the puppy so it can settle in quietly.
She also stated she didn’t have any other time off until December. While dogs, in general, don’t have a season like cats seems to have (springtime flood of kittens) there tend to be more puppies available earlier in the year rather than later.
Not to mention her other dog was lonely now, which would mean if she waited for her next time off her other dog would have been solo/lonely for another 6 months or so. Some dogs are fine solo, others prefer company.

So I can completely understand her wanting a puppy and wanting it as soon as possible due to extenuating circumstances such as time off and lonely dog.

As for her not telling the general Coth public every single detail they think they’re in a position to demand to know about where she obtained the puppy? Frankly I’m surprised she even let this BB know she got a puppy, considering the roasting she was receiving.

Rescues may vary from state to state or region to region, but even here in the Northeast where we don’t have as many stray dogs, etc…finding a sane rescue is like finding a needle in a haystack. In a 6 month time period tying to help one of my niece’s find a dog, we contacted 27 rescues in state. Out of those only 3 were capable of actually evaluating dogs for adoption or being semi-reasonable about their screening process.

Unfortunately none of those 3 had hounds available and my niece wanted a hound. She wasn’t overly picky about breed of hound or hound mix, just wanted a young male hound. She did finally find her hound, a Southern puppy brought up here for “adoption.” It was at an “adoption fair” thingy and they had a lot of hounds/mixes. Why did she get her dog there? After dealing with nutters and wackjobs from so many places, she was more interested in dealing with people who would let her “adopt” the dog for $____ and then LEAVE the area again. Because as she said, “Last thing I want is some crazy do-gooder doing drive-by spying! They scare me!” So now she has Wee Willie Walker…well, he’s not so little anymore. A Walker/Bloodhound is pretty big, LOL!

Sswor, congrats on your new puppy. And don’t sweat the Coth brigade, some of these same people peed on another Cother’s puppy-parade after she also bought an Amish puppy. A Cother whose full time job is working with dogs, has been a long time well liked member here. But her mention of an Amish puppy went right to crazy-ville too. She left here for a bit after that. And her Amish puppy? Wally is doing AWESOME!

Back when we adopted from a rescue, both my husband and I worked full time, outside of our home, we rented, and we didn’t have a fenced yard. We were approved. We did have dog experience and breed specific experience, vet records from our past dogs (who had passed away) and were responsible. Don’t lump all rescues into one.
