Rescued-- UPDATE & New Kittens- update Silo sighting 7/26

I was just going to comment the same thing.

I heard (no scientific evidence) that it makes them more patient hunters.

They need food to be good mouseā€™s. Would anyone starve their hunting dogs? Let these myths die.

Every other cat I have ever had was indoor/ outdoor and had food available 24/7. Never stopped them from hunting anything ( as evidenced by what was left on my porch).

Dice would snack between hunts. Got to keep up the energy level for good hunting!

Calliby and Rufus had appointments to get fixed on Wed Oct 5th.

As luck would have it Barn Kitty has started taking them on what I call "walk abouts " where the whole family is gone for 24 hours at time :confounded:

The first time I thought they had packed up and left and was beside myself with grief. They were back the next morning happy as can be. After that I stopped worrying but just hoped that the day of their appointment would not be one of the days.

Well Monday morning they are gone. Tuesday morning they are gone. Food had been eaten but they left right after and I am feeling sick because the low cost clinic is booked 2 months outā€¦

Tuesday night I went into the loft and here was Rufus! I grabbed him and stuffed him in the large cage I have. While grabbing Rufus I hear another cat running for parts unknown and figure it was Calliby scared to death of someone coming into the loft at night and of my flashlight.

I hoped having Rufus penned would keep everyone else home and in the morning here came Calliby!

They both got done and came through it with no residual fear of me ( i wondered). Now they can " walk about " in peace and the kitten supply chain is over!!

Yay!! So glad you were able to get them. Sometimes cats know!

Like when youā€™re about to get up to go to the bathroomā€¦ Ope, prime real estate for your lap right there.

They are both adorable!!

They still love me ( or is it the wet food?)

They really act as if nothing happened. Running and jumping and when I looked at Callibyā€™s incision this morning it looks perfect, way less traumatic than when BK was done.

Maybe with the anesthetic they donā€™t remember the whole ordeal ? Calliby was awake but wobbly when I picked them up and Rufus was still down for the count so I left them in the cage until dinnertime and then opened the door and they came out looking like " whenā€™s dinner?"

BK looked and acted like death warmed over for a good 24 hours but obviously she had a lot more to deal with .

They weighed more than I would have thought.

Rufus 4+ pounds.

Calliby Just an ounce shy of 4 pounds.

Silo will now rub his face on my extended finger and purr in anticipation of getting wet food. I have high hopes of getting to pet him one day but it may be years down the road . That is ok I am patient :slightly_smiling_face:

The surgery was much easier on my younger fosters. They were back to normal within 24 hours.

Iā€™m glad theyā€™re feeling good and non the worse for the wear.

AND Last night as all were at the food bar , I stroked Silo while he was eating  He just looked up at me and kept eating. Oh how I love that boy :slightly_smiling_face:

I happened to go into my vets office yesterday and the receptionist whoā€™s mother took Jenny & Thomas was working. I asked ( cautiously) if they were still alive and doing alright ( you never know) ?

She gave me a big smile and said they were doing wonderfully and her mother adores them

 Letā€™s say ā€œbothā€
They look great & Silo got the message:
You are the Goddess of The Food.
Happy Walkabouts to the whole non-proliferating family! :smile_cat:

Minor Kitty Update and pictures.

Kittens are 5 1/2 months now.

Hard to get any decent ones as they are either sleeping or wanting to eat. Seems they are never still.

Barn Kitty needs a name change to Porky :unamused: She does more eating than she used to after her operation and Jenny Craig the cat version may be in her future?

Rufus is a big boy now and he never misses a meal :confounded: I fear he may be following in BKā€™s large paw printsā€¦

Calliby is my daredevil and hunter along with her buddy, big brother Silo. They both miss meals due to being who knows where ridding the world of small rodents and sadly birds other than my exploding pigeon colony :grimacing:

Silo is a work in progress. We have progressed to him needing to touch my finger 2xā€™s with his nose before he will eat the wet food? I donā€™t know what this means in a catā€™s mind but do it we must. If I donā€™t bend down and offer my finger he just sits there meowing until I do.

I can also run my hand along his back most mornings as he rubs like mad against anything he can find in anticipation of wet food. It was cold this morning and he would not come down to eat.

Nobody is a fan of the last week of frigid weather but we are warming up again thankfully now.

Yay! Thank you for the update on these kitties! They look great.

My kitty used to always give my hand a cheek rub before she would eat whatever I dished up. She hasnā€™t done it in years now, but Silo has reminded me of it. I miss it.

I pet the others and he watches me intently as I do , so I wondered if this is his way of interacting with me for now?

It could be.
My older kitty, when she came to live with Velvet and me, used to watch us playing together with a look that said she was trying to figure out what we were doing. She came from a 4-cat home among humans who knew very little about cats and cared less.
Then suddenly one Christmas when I was taking down the tree and putting away the lights, she started to play with the string of lights! Thank goodness Iā€™d already unplugged it! I had never seen her play before.
After that she joined us in playing Treats, but she never made as much of a game out of it as Velvet used to. But she seemed to enjoy the game in her own way.
Sounds like Silo might be thinking along the same lines! Give him a finger touch for me sometime.

Donā€™t worry about the weight. My barn cats get chunky in the winter and slim back down in the spring. Natureā€™s way of providing insulation!

Silo has become an attention hound! He canā€™t get enough petting and will take that over the wet food even. I am floored.

He talks to me, rubs on me , drools and is just beside himself with joy as I pet him 2 handed

I canā€™t believe the transformation because he was completely untouched except the time we rescued him and the time I stuffed him in the carrier!

My pigeon population is totally out of control. I was going through an alarming amount of kibble and I thought how much do 4 cats eat???

I came up one morning to find several pigeons at the kibble buffet :rage: with the cats up in the bales watching.
My husband said the pigeons are too big for the cats to control. So I put the kibble in the cage I have back along the wall with a big box somewhat obscuring the opening and so far 10 days later the pigeons have not eaten any ( as evidenced by how much I go through).

I was buying a 16 pound bag every week!
