Resell on Duett?

I was wondering if anyone knew of the resell value of a Duett? I have been saddle shopping for a hard to fit horse, and I have stumbled upon a Wide Duett Monoflap that looks like it will fit the bill. She doesn’t want to offer a trial, but the price is really good on it.

I’m considering taking a leap of faith and buying it, anyways. I figure if it doesn’t work, I could resell. Any ideas of the resell or desire of Duetts?

I have no idea about the Duetts, but what I do see reselling quickly in my area are Butet, Devocoux, and some of the other top French brands. I had an ADT (French, but not as popular as the others) and it took a year to sell !!

Some of us are desperately looking for a hoop tree. However, I suspect that we are not in the majority of saddle shoppers. :frowning:

It took a year to resale my Duett Fidelio. I had mine on consignment with a saddle fitter so I don’t know how much exposure mine got. I think I sold it for two hundred less than I bought it for. I rode in it for two years then it sat in consignment for a year.

I sold mine for exactly what I paid for it. They are LOVELY saddles for the wide-backed hoop-tree-needing horses. They are not, unfortunately, one of the most popular names which may mean you sit on it longer before selling it.

Duetts are a bit of a harder resell and typically don’t hold their value the same way many other brands do. This is not to say they are a poor purchase or an inferior brand - it is simply that the market for them is limited.

Before you make the leap and buy this saddle, if you are willing to share more information about your horse and the saddle in question, we can probably help you determine whether it would be worth the chance. Also, if you’ve not already done so, you can contact Nancy at Duett (she’s the owner and is extremely helpful) and she could help you figure out whether the saddle might work for your horse.

This. I had never heard of a Duett until a friend bought a dressage one for her wide backed guy. I have now ridden in several and found the twist to be exceedingly wide on all of them… which may just be the nature of the beast.

I think since they are still a lesser known brand, particularly in the hunter jumper world, they can be harder to sell. There are people looking for these saddles though. Including myself if I were shopping.

I have not seen a Duett in person, so cannot comment on quality. I think any hoop tree could be a bit harder to sell because that market seems to in general be a bit smaller.

I think I know which saddle you’re talking about though and it does appear to be a good deal.

This exactly. They are overall harder to sell but they are also exactly what certain individual shoppers are looking for and they can be hard to find. So you might have to be patient but when you find the right buyer she’ll probably be a really “live” one.

I sold my Duett Allegro quickly and for about what I paid for it after 2 years of ownership. I advertised it carefully and did allow a trial to encourage buyer confidence. I then bought a Duett Presto…and have had 3 offers on it.

Monoflaps are tricky to resell because they only “speak” to a small segment of buyers. That’s mostly eventers, which is not a huge resale demographic to begin wtih. And while there are certainly some eventers riding wide-load horses and craving a monoflap under $1200…ask yourself how many of them are saddle shopping at any given moment AND can’t afford to save up $1500-$2000 to get into a Kent and Masters S-Series monoflap, or a used monoflap from the British brands.

That’s just not very many people. If you’re willing to be patient or sell at a great price or offer a trial, you can move a Duett Monoflap. But you have to be realistic about how long it may take to find a buyer.

Resale is always better on jump saddles that can cross into the hunter/jumper ring and English Pleasure ring. So something like a Duett Allegro, or even a Duett Presto Eventing dual flap, is going to be a WAY easier resell than a Duett monoflap. If you can find one of those, think hard about going in that direction.

If you decide to “bite,” make sure you get a genuinely good price. I’d ballpark the used value on a Duett Monoflap around $800-$850, maybe a little more/less depending on condition.

Thank you. Saddle shopping, even though I’ve been working with fitters, has been a nightmare for this horse. I’ve never owned a monoflap, but I am getting to the point of being desperate. The price on this is much below what I have generally seen when searching for regular Duett’s. A resell of under $1000 would not be losing money.

My heart is just telling me to go for it. My mind is attempting to be logical.

Can you contact Duett for fitting help prior to purchasing the saddle?
