   So tragic
I will be heading out to Devon tomorrow, and I am glad I was not there to witness this today. Just goes to show life as you know it can be turned upside down at any moment. Give all your horses an extra carrot tonight.

Saw that. Died instantly. I wonder what happened?

I too wondered exactly how the horse died instantly. Was anyone watching on the live feed?

Poor horse. Sounds like it happened very quickly…maybe an aortic rupture, like what happened to Hickstead?
How horrible, poor Emma. Prayers! My heart goes out to her, Scott Stewart, and their whole team. What a terrible loss, not one Emma will soon forget
It was horrible. So sad for all of his connections and especially for Emma Kurtz.
Horse simply made a bad jumping effort and fell badly in the wrong way. Traumatic injury. Unfortunately it can happen. It is a very rare occurrence in the hunter or jumper ring. With constantly improving safety considerations for our horses and riders from footing to safety gear and break away equipment we are very fortunate that today this is a highly unusual situation. As much as we complain about our governing organization as a whole, this is something that they have gotten right.
I had just turned away to do something and when I came back the camera was pointed at the sky and the announcer was telling the crowd that events like this were upsetting to everyone but very rare, and the show management would look after everything. They had closed the live feed so I couldn’t scroll back to see what happened. although at the time i just assumed bad injury.
I would expect injury to head/neck for it to be an instant death
Please remember this was a child. A child that most likely has access to internet and social media. She will likely replay this in her head for the rest of her life. Sometimes details do not matter.
Many, many hugs to Emma and all of her connections.
I think this was what I saw on the live feed this afternoon - unless another horse went down badly too. Awful to watch, feed cut away but if it’s the same horse it was heartbreaking. I came to see if anyone had posted if horse was ok My thoughts are with all his connections.
Hugs to Emma and all that knew the horse
And Emma just placed 2nd with an 83 in the large younger stake, amazing how well such a young individual can hold herself together like that after such a tragedy.
Condolences to Emma, Scott, and everyone else on Cambridge’s team
Emma is a great kid and very talented rider on a lovely horse - terrible accident and tragedy. Condolences to everyone involved with the horse.
How sad. My sympathies to all the connections.
Hugs and condolences to Emma and all of his connections.
My children’s hunter flipped when I was 15, and fell in such a way that he hit his poll in the wrong place and passed away. He was my most favorite horse and my heart goes out to Emma. It’s an awful thing to have to go through, especially at a young age. Godspeed Cambridge.
Godspeed Cambridge, condolence to his connections. Awful thing to experience.
Some of the Facebook comments on COTH’s article post are infuriating

COTH must have deleted them. I see only condolences and innocuous comments

I saw the article when they first posted it on Facebook and I was wondering if someone would have some obnoxious comments. Looks like it. People are awful.
The way the article read, I thought the horse had a heart attack or something. Regardless, it sounds like he was a wonderful horse, and its terrible for everyone to have to go through.

They are still there. You might have to click “see replies” for some of them.
I can’t believe anyone finds it appropriate to call a child heartless in this situation, but some have.
