Resvantage Equine

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience w this? I currently use Metabarol, my horses’ (two) insulin levels are creeping up. Resvantage has a product comparison page that not only appears to be directed at Metabarol, but has interesting information. Thank you.

I simply wouldn’t rely on any resveratrol to keep EMS issues in check.

What is the rest of their diet?

If Insulin levels are creeping up maybe Resveratrol isn’t the answer? I never really understood how that ingredient alone was supposed to help metabolic issues, especially at that PRICE! From what I understand it’s mostly advertised to be an anti-inflammatory/antioxidant.

Metabarol suggests 4 scoops (OMG) for a 1000 pound horse meaning 2800mg of Resveratrol. Resvantage has 200mg per capsule, which they seem to suggest giving twice a day, so, 400mg Resveratrol. It does have some other good stuff in it but those things are easy (and cheap) to feed separately.

Theoretically you could just feed one scoop of Metabarol and still get quite a bit more Resveratrol than a capsule of Resvantage.

Yes, I agree. This is a horse, due to genetic makeup, is prone to ID and laminitis. He is on a very low NSC diet. More than one vet suggested Metabarol after InsulinWise made no difference. I stumbled across this product and thought the information page was curious. They compared their product to the “leading powdered product” with their product coming out on top. I recently read an article that didn’t provide much support for resverstrol, but was curious, in light of the comparison page (specifically about absorption of powder) to see if anyone had tried it. Thank you.

Thought I’d bump this up. The insulin in the horse in question is well controlled at the moment. He is, at the recommendation of two state university veterinarians, on Metabarol. The company that makes Resvantage says their resveratrol is 8 times more bioavailable due to the process they use and that it is in a liquid capsule. They have no real research on their page and recommend PubMed. I’m just curious to see (again) if anyone has tried it. Metabarol does have some studies on their website. I believe the number of horses MSU used to explore InsulinWise was only 15. There is room for SO many variables…Thank you.

My senior horse was recently seen by a Sports Performance vet and he recommended Resvantage as a compliment to Prascend for the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and insulin therapeutic benefits. I discussed with his primary care vet who is managing his Cushing’s and last year a temporary insulin imbalance and she recommended InsulinWise. What have you used and seen results? The primary care vet seemed to prefer InsulinWise for the price.
Thank you

Hi! I tried InsulinWise for a short time, but my horse’s insulin levels crept up on it so I went back to Metabarol. It surely could have been coincidental but I don’t know. Nothing else is his diet changed.

Just checking in to see what you did and share what I found. The two I care for both stopped eating Resvantage about the same time…in apples, carrots, Equine Senior, pill pockets, applesauce…just nope. I went back to Metabarol…one will eat the pellets. The other I have to syringe the powder down his throat. I stumbled across a human resveratrol product made by Luma Nutrition. The capsules are only 1/4 inch, made w white resveratrol (which I learned is supposed to be better than brown-I had no idea there were two colors) and have 300 mg per pill. I think I’m going to order that and give them 2 pills a day and add InsulinWise for the amino acids. Vets may recommend InsulinWise as they do get a rebate, per the company. Both horses were doing very well in Sept (insulin in the 20s) but it crept up in January.

Thank you for the information. Sadly, I had to put my horse down on May 28th, 2022. He was very ill. Kidney Disease combined with uncontrollable Cushing’s. disease.

I’m so, so very sorry.:cry::broken_heart:
