Retailer “Back In The Saddle”

Back in December, I ordered a Christmas gift for a friend from “Back In The Saddle”, an online retailer. She received the gift just fine and liked it. I had ordered from them previously and never had an issue with anything.

Today, a $14.95 charge from them appears on my credit card. I call them and they charged me for a VIP club, that you pay $14.95 per month for, and can supposedly save thousands of dollars at hundreds of retailers.

I called and the representative said he will reverse the charges, but I will never do business with them again. This was something I never signed up for or authorized.

Just wanted to warn others if you have done business with Back In The Saddle recently, check the credit card you used. You may get an unexpected charge!

That is just crazy.
What reason did they give for signing you up for a paid subscription that you did not ask for?

I have always liked their catalog. I will be sure to not order from them.

Ugh. A family member has gotten these charges from other places they order from. It’s almost always a tiny checkbox to opt out, and very deceptive.

I have ordered from Back in the Saddle before, they have interesting horse themed stuff, but not recently.

Thanks for the warning! I put something in my cart and clicked through the checkout up to the payment info, there is nothing. I’m guessing at most there was is tiny disclaimer on the confirmation page.

These places depend on people not paying attention to their credit card bills. :frowning:

My husband ordered something from them once and he said they were awful to deal with, he did not order online but phoned it in. He said he spent about 10 minutes arguing with them about the so called VIP club. They were doing a hard sell on it and would not take “no thanks” for an answer until he threatened to hang up.

Weirdly, no response or even an apology when I told them I did not sign up for this “service”. I did some quick math, and in order to make this VIP membership even come close to paying for itself, you would have to order $1800 a year from Back In The Saddle, and lord knows how much if you are attempting to get “discounts” from other retailers. And this is after paying $180 per year for your “membership”!

Wow! How is that a good deal to anyone? Does this VIP membership provide anything other than a discount? Free shipping maybe?

It says you can get up to $1,000 total savings with shipping rebates and savings of some sort at other retailers as well, but the amount per purchase is capped at $10, which does not sound like much.

This is the link to the page of the VIP.

Here is a link to “how it works”. You have to submit a form and all your receipts, then wait for them to send you a check. I wonder how many exclusions there are and how difficult it is to get reimbursement. I can’t believe in this day and age that there are still things like this being promoted!
