Retirement Farm Options?

As my mare is older I’m always on the lookout for a good option on where to retire her. Due to the maintenance she is needing I’ve made the decision to retire her in the fall/early winter this year and look for a new prospect.

Has anyone had experience with Caveland Farm in VA (http://horseretirementva.com/)? Feel free to send me a message if you prefer. Do you have any other recommendations on where you’d send your horse? I’m located in PA but willing to ship her out of state to a good retirement program. Of course cost is a consideration as I’ll need to board a riding horse as well, so I’d like to stay around $450 or less for board. She likes to be out as much as possible, so field board with shelter is absolutely fine. Good care is of the upmost importance as I don’t want to have to worry about her care, especially if she’s out of state and I can’t visit regularly. Thanks so much for the recommendations!

Baridown Farm in Pittsboro NC is a wonderful retirement facility. Our gelding was there until he passed from a heart attack. Melisa the owner is so knowledgeable and dedicated. The herds are small-five or less and the pastures are managed so well. You can see photos on Facebook and see how she describes introducing new horses to the herd. She has a regular farrier and vet. Your horse will have good grass for most of the year!! The water in the tanks never gets below 55 degrees. All the pastures have shelter. It is purely a retirement farm so it is very peaceful. And it is in your budget.

Thanks! I’m reaching out to them as well!

I had a good experience with Historic Long Branch about 10 years ago and there was a vet clinic on site. Not sure how it is today.

Thank you, I’ve actually been in touch with them and sent an application as an option!
