Hoping to pull in some suggestions for honest, laidback barn owners I may be able to contact to find a good fit. Optimally available Dec 1 but can make the current situation work longer if necessary. Two out-of-work geldings.
I am pretty flexible with having them in a full-care, self-care or field board situation. Public or private, 50 horses or 5. Good, attentive care to the horses and the facility are number one. No riding amenities currently needed. I am happy to provide care or to supplement care; if barn owner is to provide care the boys have mostly minimal needs (exception noted below)… daily grain, blanketing through the winter.
I state I’m looking for “retirement-style” boarding as my boys thrive in a quiet situation and I am also now 8 months pregnant. We have no special needs the horizon. One gelding is 21 and fully retired; I would be happy to find a place he can live out his days. The other will likely be used for petting practice until family life settles and he goes back into his usual light work.
We are all fairly easy to get along with. I am a quiet, respectful boarder who appreciates a little solitude and space. The boys usually integrate easily into same-sex or mixed herds or can live paired up.
The most difficult part of the picture is that the younger gelding has respiratory allergies. I currently provide care for both horses to manage his condition. He is well controlled if he is permitted access ONLY to the food stuffs I provide - no problem in a stalled environment but for turnout, he absolutely cannot be on a round bale of any kind or share tossed hay with others.
Any new leads would be appreciated. I am well versed in the larger farms in the area but am hoping a search for quiet, off-the-radar farms will net new findings. I am in Frederick, MD. Self-care is doable in south western Frederick County down through western MoCo to Bethesda (aka River Rd). I am 100% open to the right situation (with references) being as far as PA/VA/WV.
Many, many thanks in advance from the pregnant lady. Our current boarding situation is no fun anymore.
