Return to competition, 2020 version?

Did anyone watch the USEF webinar presentation last night? COTH did a summary of highlights. No grand specifics other than new USEF liability documentation to cover themselves in the case of a show becoming an outbreak source.

I’m doubtful due the area I’m in, Northeast, of seeing shows this summer be able to resume. Maybe in lower incident based states? I’m not sure most shows are equipped to base scribes remotely from judges and how do the judges travel to venue?

Well, New Hampshire is looking to open up things like golf courses and out door seating restaurants next week, May 11th. I think this might fall into a state by state, then county by county, approach depending on “how bad” each region is.

As for scribes, well, we use radios between riders & trainers all the time. I can see a similar setup used for judges & scribes. Judges traveling without the hotels being open is going to be hard. I see a LOT of local judges in our future.

We just got a letter from our local show manager outlining what they are going to do with the hope of running shows starting in June.

Things like online check-in, class changes, scratches, etc, extensions of credits for future dates, health checks for staff daily, and some remote type setup for judges/scribes.

I don’t believe that hotels here have been forced to close, but I don’t know how many of them opted to close due to lack of business during our extensive and lengthy stay at home order.

Yeah, unfortunately New Hampshire only has one show venue at this point, hosting 2 one day shows in June and July. No updates are whether those will go forward. Unless interstate travel is more viable and safe that’s it for us for 2020.

While I would like to get back to showing, I’m not going to rush into anything unless/until there is some clarification re regionals. I had hoped to go as they are in my vicinity and I have one score. Would have had two but for a bout of illness with my horse that had us miss Feb show. And there are many challenges going forward…

In the same boat. Regionals will be LITERALLY 1 1/2 miles from my house/farm… I have qualified at one level but need one more score for another level. Hoping the summer shows go forward… I really wish USDF would come out with some statement IRT Regionals and qualifying.
