I have a couple horses that are getting Pracend dissolved in a syringe because they won’t take it in their feed. With the regular plastic syringes, the stopper gives out after several uses. I’d love to find one that I can wash and reuse on a long-term basis so I don’t go through so much plastic. I only need about 1-2ml. I’ve seen metal dental syringes online but I’m not sure if they provide too much pressure. I’ve also seen some online that have glass inserts but I don’t want glass in the barn (or in my horses mouths!) Does anyone have recommendations for a syringe that I could reuse for several years?
Thanks!
Honestly you can just smear Vaseline around the sides of the rubber stopper on the regular plastic dosing syringes. My horse has Lyme and I’ve done his entire month of doxy (given 2x/day) with the same syringe. I just slather the stopper sides with Vaseline, wash after each use, and let them dry separately.
I’ve used corn oil as well - lubricate the stopper with some oil before the first use, separate the pieces to dry after cleaning, and add more oil occasionally.
