Reviews? EasyCare Stowaway English Cantle Pack Saddlebag

Has anyone used the EasyCare Stowaway English Cantle Pack Saddlebag? If so, does the seam part that’s over the cantle but under your butt feel uncomfortable after a while?

Thanks!

I have that one! It’s nice for long rides. I notice the edge that’s over the cantle when I first put it on, but haven’t had any issues with rubbing. I think it’s far enough back that unless you’re really sitting on the back of your saddle you won’t be constant contact with it.

I’m not sure how long you’re riding for, but I also have the pommel bags, and find I use them a lot more. You can’t fit as much stuff in them, but they’re much easier to access.

Thanks, guys - I’d be jumping with the Easycare on, so probably the pommel pack wouldn’t be as good. Probably riding only a couple of hours, but my butt is large enough where it would DEFINITELY be sitting on the edge of the saddle bag!

Mine has a similar design. I don’t notice it after 2 minutes. I’ve done LD endurance rides with it so if it was going to be problematic, I’m sure something would pop up in the 25 mi.

FWIW, my pommel bags (Snugpax) stay put and move around far less than my cantle bag. I’d rather jump with them any day.

We have a couple of people in our hunt who ride with pommel bags, including first field. They stay on fine for the jumps.

They have the small ones, which in black, are fairly discrete, and do not have the water bottle holders.

I have one of those from my LD/CTR days and they are pretty handy with all that you can store inside of it. The only problem I had was that with one saddle the part over the cantel would slip off the back. Really odd but otherwise I love it…and I quit using it with that saddle.

Thanks, everyone.

I’ll look into the Snugpax pommel bags again. I HAVE to have the water bottles! The Easycare at Riding Warehouse has free shipping and an easy return policy, so I might try that first.

I have both the pommel and cantle stowaway bags and I pretty much only use the pommel bag unless it is a long ride and i want to put in an easy boot/extra water. I used to think the pommel bag would interfere with jumping, but as you can see from this pic, it really does not!

Thank you, DMK! That is a great picture, and I’m going to look into the pommel pack now. I can see it’s not moving. My horse is used to a water bottle holder bouncing around all over his side as he does cross country, so a pack that stays that still should make him very happy.
I like that option the best.

yes, it attaches to the D’s and the billets so it doesn’t move - the D attachment even lifts it off the withers a bit so it’s presumably less irritating to the horse - it attaches more to the saddle than lays on the horse, if that makes sense?. I just try to not fill up the top pocket so there isn’t a lot of bulk below my hands, then the flask and water bottle go in the other two pockets.

And best thing ever? It has a little neoprene loop that holds a tube of chapstick perfectly. I get a slightly thicker tube and the top is wedged in perfectly, just take out the stick, apply and put it back in the cap. That thing has been a lifesaver… 'Scuse me, a lipsaver!

My Snugpax attaches to the Ds on the front of the saddle and its pretty much kept up off his neck the way it sits if you snug it up. Then the straps run around the billets and around the entire pack and you can adjust how tight they are to snug it down. Mine don’t move a bit if I don’t want them to.

There are a couple different versions of the pommel packs, one is mostly just a water bottle holder, but the bigger one can hold a fair amount of other stuff too.
