RF Amber Eyes -- Now known as "Commentary"

Maybe she’s in witness protection, and now we’ve blown her cover …
Poor thing… now we’re going to have a thread in a few weeks about an Appaloosa mare named “Jane” who’s spots started to run down her butt when she got stuck in the rain at a show.

Flutie, you would know this.

Since the FEI now requires microchips for all new passport holders, what do they use them for? Do they require FEI competitions to have scanners and use them?
Because at the top level h/j shows they often have FEI Jumper Competitions.
Oh good God, don’t even suggest it. It’s enough of a headache to haul around the bloody scale for boot weighing!
Seriously, I haven’t clue one about what “they” do with the mc data. I think the Jumper discipline would be more likely to effect a scan.

I was thinking maybe a scan was part of the vet check at check-in. That’s where it would make sense.

If it makes sense, it’ll never happen. (Jaded anyone?)

Nope, not at all. . .

I don’t think anyone has a problem with name changing for the sake of name changing. There is a problem with changing a name, loosing records, identity and the ability to track a horse’s performance. And personally, I have a problem with any USEF governed sport allowing a horse’s name to influence the judging results. JER’s thread is poking fun at that concept. If you read several of the regular hunter posters on the subject they apparently believe that is the case and they don’t seem to have a problem with it.
You got that wrong subk. I don’t think that anybody that actually judges horse shows or the USEF standards for judging consider the name of the horse to be influential in scoring a hunter. We don’t care where it came from, we don’t care who owns it, we don’t care who rides it, we don’t care if your a warmblood or a thoroughbred. All it has to do is jump and move beautifully, get its lead changes and get 8 or 10 good distances. It does help if the horse is somewhat attractive. You ride in the ring and do all that, nobody cares if your name is Osama bin Laden.
This whole name changing thing is horrible! Like when people change an ex-racer’s registered name because they don’t like it. Good thing no Eventer worth their salt would dare change a horse’s registered name…right? right?
You are kidding, right?

When I sold Brain (Derby Day Dancer) the new owner promptly changed his USEA name to Beacon Point.

When my sister bought a nes horse, she promptly changed its name.

Eventers change horse’s namesALL the time. Ask the memberhip people at the USEA office.

The thing is that the USEA makes it easy to change the name while keeping the sam number and competition history.

Janet, I’m about 100% certain that Ajierene was being sarcastic.

Actually I don’t either, but it might be helpful if you would go back to the H/J forum and educate the likes of CBolyen and others who are well versed in the sport who have posted that they think it does…when you get done with that you might give them the real lowdown of the importance of Jimmy’s bridles and shirt colors.

What amazes me is that the same people who think these things matter aren’t particularly concerned about it or how it would reflect on the sport.

Years ago, parents would pay George Morris to cheer for their kid after an eq trip. Does this go on still? Obviously it did matter then. Have the hunters “gone straight?” just askin’ …

According to the thread on the h/j forum, someone’s filed a protest about the horse showing in second year green at Upperville. It’ll be interesting to see how this turns out

Ok so now there’s an article about this

So Larry doesn’t know that eventers get registered with USEF. Yep, even us simple folk can do that

He’s truly an innocent or dumb as a post if he thinks the USEF would have disciplines where they didn’t require/charge for horse registration.

The owner is back pedaling and trying to cover his @ss. Notice how he tried to pass the blame on to Kelley? I don’t buy it for a second.

I register all my foals lifetime usef…leave it to buyer to register with USDF, ushja, or usea…you know what, some just give them a new name and identity anyway, instead of just transferring the number with a name change.

There isn’t much a breeder can do to prevent it but try to keep track of them through changes of hand.

Whew! For a minute there, I thought my sarcastic remark was not clear enough! I am glad someone else caught it.

Sure there is. If you know that the horse has been given a new number, report it to the USEF. They probably won’t do anything, but at least you’ll have tried.

Thanks for the link.

Wow, what a load of crap, I have lost all respect for the connections. I realize “everyone does it” but that doesn’t make it right. It’s a glaring example of what kind of people are perched on the top tier of this sport.

when I first started taking hunter lessons with my event horse I was very discouraged that I would have to show in the 4’ pro classes because several years back we had done a hand full of prelims and 1 CIC* at which I jumped the wrong fence and was eliminated.

when talking to a hunter trainer I was told “oh, you’ll be fine because the competitions have to be USEF recognized”

LMAO.
um…eventing is USEF recognized.

a couple years back I was tarred and feathered on the H/J forum (rightfully so) for commenting that an eventer with a hunter bascule and canter could beat out a pure hunter any day, ESPECIALLY in the derbys.
I suppose the opinion was given a little too decidedly so I took the flaming with my big girl panties on.

But Miss Amber Eyes is a great example of what I was talking about.
Also the horse I sold. He was fresh off of some eventes and one month after his purchase he was sporting a circuit champion cooler. He went from the vet check to the van and straight to the circuit.

: )
The horses brought up in eventing are bomb proof and as handy as they come.

I’m so excited for KF and Amber Eyes. I just love watching the derbys and it’s really cool to see one of “our own” doing justice in the hunter ring.
Kudos to all involved in the horse’s life.
