Did anyone notice that the ribbons given out at WEG were suprisingly small/mundane for winning a world championship?!?! I just was clicking through the show jumping pics, and the ribbon looks like it’s part of Hodges Badges cheapy pack I know it’s about the medal and not the ribbon, but sheesh! If I won at WEG, I’d demand a ribbon with a rosette the size of a dinner plate and streamers a yard long
I’m pretty sure they got trophies and all sorts of prizes, too.

I know, my point wasn’t that they were getting jipped (I’d take that Rolex watch!) Just saying that the ribbons aren’t quite what I would expect for the WEG.
They need to take tips from the dog show folks, those people know how to do ribbons!
Did the people other than the top 3 get any ribbons? I mean placing even 10th is pretty cool given the competition (never mind just getting there at all). I only saw the top 3 get ribbons and the winner get all the other loot.
well the sj and eventing folks got ribbons to 8th at least.
I noticed!
I come from breed show land originally (now dressage), and the ribbons just don’t compare in a lot of other disciplines. Even at our little cruddy shows the championship ribbons were fun.
At the WEG, I’d expect a huge tri-color ribbon (not so huge it can’t be hung on the bridle of course) with nice long flowy strands for the victory gallop - maybe even a garland of flowers or at least a big fun neck ribbon…
But yeah, I saw the puny little blue Totilas got, and I thought, man, I’ve gotten nicer ribbons at one day open shows, haha. Granted, I’m pretty sure winning that honor is pretty fantastic without any prizes at all (though they definitely got some sweet prizes too to make up for the teensy ribbons.)
i’m not sure the pro’s want the ribbons… imagine how many shows the attend every year, and how many ribbons they win. I remember seeing someone (i think it was McLain Ward) throw their ribbon from one of the nights to someone in the stands. Many of the riders do that at the royal winter fair here in Toronto.
I have been in some ODG trainers in Germany and believe me, American ribbons far surpass what is given out at many shows in Europe
What you see more of is the wearable ribbons for the rider
The horse ribbons, as a rule, are pretty humble

Even if they don’t want the ribbon, I’m sure whoever catches it loves having it! Even if for that reason only, I think they should give nice, big ribbons
