Ride Scheduling and/or intro to dressage show management resources

Hello!

Are there good resources, online or otherwise, for those individuals or clubs that would like to engage volunteers with learning how to schedule dressage rides? Pretty much an intro to all things dressage show management may also be in line…

There’s some interest in my area to assist some schooling shows or introductory rated events and I thought it may be a nice winter topic to try and bring into my clubs/groups if there’s good resources on how to learn.

Why not find a person who has done show management for a local schooling show and pay them an honorarium to give your club a little class on how to run a show?

I agree with scribbler. There is huge benefit to having a real person immediately ready to deal with questions and tailor you your particular needs

Thanks.

I should have thought of that and will have to ask around to see if there’s any of the fountains of knowledge a.) still left or b.) of the temperament that can pass it on & don’t mind teaching.

Many of the events here now outsource their shows to secretaries or management from quite some distance and the very local shows are fine, but most of the people (myself included) that have been thrown into running these events are looking for a little bit more assistance on how to smoothly get everything tied together onto the par of rated events.

Here is one on-line resource:https://ag.umass.edu/sites/ag.umass.edu/files/pdf-doc-ppt/horseshowplanningguide_1.pdf
Perhaps ask to shadow and help someone who is already running shows? Most everyone wants help these days!
Where are you located? Our GMO here in Ocala has been running successful large schooling shows for many years. For scheduling, we use Fox Village… much easier than the old days of shuffling paper strips around on the dining room table. We have our last show of the season until January tomorrow, but if you are in the area you could shadow our manage on the day of the show… the SHow Sec. will already have the schedule done.

USDF has quite a bit of information on running a show that may be helpful. There is not much about scheduling rides except for the suggested times to allow for each test.

Thank you so much for the link!

I am in the WI/IL area, so tucking into winter here. I haven’t used Fox Village, except from the exhibitor side, but excellent to hear it’s easier on the show office side as well.
