Does anyone here know why a saddle might be makeing me feel like I constantly have something pushing my leg backwards? I constantly end up shuffling my legs forward out of the stirrups to aleviate the discomfort in my thighs from it. Is it a fit issue? A style of saddle? A position issue? I’ kinda at a loss here and have never felt this from a saddle before
Is your body properly aligned when in the Western saddle while riding it, just falling into position? The old Head, Hips, Heels in a vertical line? Toes of boots should be visible in front of knees, with just dropping your eyes.
There are plenty of saddles that will put you in an improper seat, legs too far forward. I have not heard of too many Western saddles making your legs fall behind your body, though anything is possible. And folks going from English to Western have some ideas about stirrups, body position that just don’t work in any Western saddle…
Could be your stirrups are too long.
Yeah, the too long was eliminated first because I am a really short rider ( under 5ft) so it is my go to when I have problems. I have be a western rider for a long time and rode in any saddle I could fit on a horse for years, most times without stirrups even, and never had one that rode like this.Feels so weird i figured I would ask the all knowledgeable sounding board that is COTH
What kind/brand of saddle? If you are used to riding in a chair seat and you have a saddle with a balanced seat it might just feel like it’s pushing your leg back, when in reality you are in alignment.
Its made by Western Rawhide Saddlery, I’m not sure what it was originally marketed ( its second hand )as but I would say either an all rounder style or trail perpose saddle , mabey a sedate wp show style but I don’ think so. It has a nice deeper seat set but small straight riging
I bet you could get better info with pics of you sitting in the saddle. So hard when we can’t see what is happening.
