Riders Rasp

Anyone know if these can be bought at local stores, and not just online?

Yes, they should be available at stores that carry Cashel products. They are distributed by Cashel.

Yes, I bought one at Equus Now here in Columbus. I have also seen it at other local tack stores. Equus Now has a price match policy, so they gave me the best price I could find online (I think it was about $35).

Sadly my horse’s shoes are back on, so I only used mine twice.

Do they work? Ive wondered about them

Sure they work. But why not just buy a quality rasp. Half the price and twice the surface area.

Someone was bound to go there. Here’s my reasons:

  1. I have limited room in my tack trunk and I don’t own my own farm. The RidersRasp is a lot smaller and lighter than a rasp. 1.5 less pounds to drag to the next show or boarding barn = good.

  2. The RidersRasp is the right size and shape to just park the hoof against my knee and do what needs to be done. No sticking the hoof between my legs, no getting out a hoof stand, no leaning way over and sawing back and forth. For those of us with bad backs, this alone is worth it.

  3. “Twice the surface area” is not good when you’re an amateur, non-farrier trying to take off a very little bit of hoof–and do it evenly without ruining the angle of the roll. Frankly, I wouldn’t have trusted myself with a rasp for that job. Not even a dull, older rasp from the farrier. For an extra $20, I could skip the potentially disastrous practice sessions and get the result I wanted.

It’s not a product for everybody, but for some of us it’s the right product for the job.

IMHO ~ waste of money - did not work at all for my horses or ponies ! I was sent replacement blades which made no difference - I returned the entire product for $ back… Waste of Money and Time !!!IMHO ! Just by a farrier rasp - more quality and works !!!
