Ridiculous lack of seating and concessions

I don’t disagree with everyone that the prices are comparable to what anyone would pay at any other major entertainment venue - football, baseball, Disneyland - whatever. But I think the context is important - this is the first time WEG has been held in the States, and it’s being held at a time when enjoying such an event is ever more out of reach for most Americans. Couple that with the fact that equestrian sports already have a reputation for being elitist “rich people” sports (I know, I know - I’m not rich either!!), and I think it’s incumbent upon the organizers to make a special effort to make it financially accessible. They are doing WEG and its sports a disservice by not doing so. I know it costs a lot of money to put this sort of event on, but come on - one food vendor? $3 beverages? No snacks? Ridiculous.

There are THREE museums @ KHP

The third museum is the Show Jumping Museum at USHJA headquarters (it’s behind the Visitors Information Center).

I believe (would hope) that it’s free.

There is a Horse Expo downtown at the RUPP arena that is FREE. It
is wonderful! A friend and I spent all day Monday there and enjoyed
the entertaining special clinicians and unique merchandise. Lots of
high quality art pieces and jewelry.

DREAMER, the horse you saw in the movie of the same name is there,
as well as the paint stallion used in Hidalgo and their trainer, who exhibits
the methods used in training for movies. Also a very interesting trainer
from Australia, who received rave reviews.

The vendors are very upset, as not many know about this expo and they
are not allowed to advertise at the Horse Park. 10k for booth space and
I doubt many will be solvent at the end of their stay.

Lots of free samples. Redmond Salt booth is giving away Free salt chunks.
Nice if you drove, not so great if you are flying!

I found the horse park difficult to negotiate–very long walks, not enough
rest areas, and not many places to sit. Seems like everything is setup so that
you want to go to the AllTech beer garden, where there is entertainment and
the only place to sit, drink and converse with comfort.

okay, I got it. Taking a fanny pack stuffed with food. Going to put it on under my shirt and wear a baggy sweatshirt. Smuggling is my specialty!

now, can we take one of those rolling wire shopping carts into the park? That would be great for carrying all our stuff in. We are going to the Convo center on Tuesday when we pull into town so we are taking it to that. But can we take it KHP? What about if we want to general admission on Wed and not go to events. We want to just browse the shopping and museums.

Nothing like broadcasting smuggling tips here… pretty soon it will be a pat-down  Anyone for the big hair look?? Roll a granola bar into your bun, hide a sandwich in your pouf? Darn and I’ve got short hair now. A wig!!

Have been bringing in a backpack with 32 oz Nalgen bottle full of water, 3 granola bars, an apple and mints every day (this being day 3 for me) and no one has given me any grief over it.

Food is what I’d expect, though is true that it is worse than what we get at Rolex. I find the salads acceptable. Never had a problem finding seating, ate over at the Horse Park cafe the first day. Today was at the main food site, again no problem finding a seat.

Hotel Shuttle busses are WONDERFUL. Love not having to drive.

Been fun so far. I expected it to be $$.
