Riding at Valley Forge?

I’m planning on hauling to Valley Forge Military Park for a trail ride on Wednesday… I’ve always wanted to ride there since I was a little kid, and finally at 40, I have the truck/trailer/horse with which to do it. I’m super excited!

Anyway, has anyone else ever ridden there? I have trail maps printed out and whatnot, but I’m particularly interested whether or not the trails are rocky… My horse is barefoot, and I boot him for rides that don’t have the greatest footing.

Any other tips or info for Valley Forge that I should know about? Thanks!

I rode there many years ago when I lived in the area. I think it’s really fun to ride through history like that! Right now I live near Concord, Mass. and spend a lot of time on the old roads that were use in the revolutionary war. You can practically hear the hoofbeats.

As I remember, the trails were not rocky so you should be fine barefoot but it’s been a LONG time for me.

Just be prepared for the deer. They seem to have no boundaries and will come right up to you and your horse.

It is a nice place to ride!

It is almost all grassy trails. The River Trail along Valley Creek is a gravel/stone dust mix and the road up Mt. Misery is rocky. However, my barefoot horse finds the grassy sides/edges just fine for both areas. It is probably less than 10% of our total ride that is anything other than soft grass and dirt. Just FYI, depending how you go, there is a short, not so pleasant stretch right along the turnpike, but it is very short.
