Riding 'Boot Camps' Without Your Own Horse? Anywhere in the world

Hi everyone,

My Google research is failing me here. I’m writing an article and want to find out where people could go for say, a week, and have intensive lessons and riding training on horses that the facility owns? It doesn’t really matter whether it’s aimed at very serious riders or people who want to combine a few days riding with a holiday to be honest, but there must be the option to go for a few days and improve without bringing a horse. I am almost sure I’ve heard of some places in Portugal, The Netherlands and the US where this is an option but can’t seem to find anything definitive.

Does anyone know of these sorts of places? Any of the three Olympic disciplines would be fine, though I imagine it’s more common for dressage and jumping than eventing.

Spain, Portugal, Ireland…
e.g. Morgardo Lusitano in Lisbon

Paul Belasik (sp) in PA does a riding academy. They can provide horses.
Lurena Bell in TX does adult camps. I think they can provide a horse and have a bunkhouse to stay.
Both hold them a couple times a year.
Both are Dressage oriented

Redefin in Germany offers weekly courses for Dressage, jumping and driving. All the horses used for the classes are upper level in their discipline and most are approved stallions. Amazing instructors and a stunning historic surrounding. Not far from the Baltic Sea which is amazing for short trips.

Epona Equestrian Center in Spain definitely offers this for dressage and it is awesome! Great horses, great food, great lessons. You can do just intensive dressage lessons, or you can combine them with trail riding in the countryside.

For Eventing/jumping, I recommend Annaharvey Farm in Ireland. They offer several packages of lessons and accommodation and food at various levels of intensity in all phases of eventing and some trail riding options as well.

Look up the listings on any of the riding vacation web sites. For example:

Monte Velho in Portugal

Sons of the Wind Lusitanos - MA and FL

I would imagine you could set this up at any riding lesson barn that had school horses. You could arrange to have lesson a day for a week for Instance. You could probably set this up almost anywhere within driving distance of where you live. It wouldn’t be an exotic vacation but it could be useful.

Cotswold Riding at Jill Carenza Equestrian will do this in the UK. Coworth Park Equestrian will also.

You guys are great, thank you!

I was thinking of trying this place in Germany in May-June after a conference/research in London - its near Leipzig, Sudharz - there is a bereiter trained instructor, school horses, and its residential. ddx

Any of the Natl. Riding schools in Germany should offer school horses. https://www.landesreitschule-hoya.de/ is one of them. There might be also info here: https://www.pferd-aktuell.de/ausbildung/ausbildung
