Riding halters

Hello all. I’m looking for my dream rope halter based on several options I’ve seen on various websites. Thoughts on what works best?

I want a rope halter with a snap so I don’t have to mess with the stupid knot and to make it safer for when I tie with it. I want something with rings at the nose so I can attach a pair of reins and ride in it but I want it to have some sort of chin strap so it doesn’t slide around if I have to pull.

With the weather I’ve ridden my horse 4 times in a month so I’m busy dreaming!

This is very close but I wasn’t sure about the cross pull action being confusing to my horse who is ridden in a bit the rest of the time. As well as the dangling parts.

This is closer but it tends to slide around a bit and I want it to be more secure

These have a snap

This has the chin strap and a snap but I wasn’t sure if it would rub since the chin strap doesn’t come off

This looks pretty good

I used just a plain riding halter (it ties), with a rolled nose. My horse hates the crossover sensation - too much pressure (and she doesn’t need it).

The clip on the do or do not looks like it would be uncomfortable to the horse to me.

Where do you attach your reins? I don’t want to attach them to the fiador knot on the bottom and when I use a regular rope halter it slides around if I have to make a correction.

The owners name is Karen, you can either email her or call (if she is in the rope room it may be a few hours before she calls back, the phone is in the house). She will make you whatever you need and discuss fit, etc. Tell her I sent you

American trail gear. I wanted this halter, but without the rings (http://naturalhorsemanship.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/aeron-riding-halter-72.jpg). Emailed them, 2 weeks later, halter with exactly what I wanted, made to my measurements arrived. They were really great.

I used to ride on trails in Clinton Anderson’s halter. I got it from the BO, when I started to board at her place. The horse went very nicely in it.

I attached reins to the loops of fiador knot- one rein to each loop (clip on). It never budged (unlike some other rope halters’ knots).

I still own the halter and use it daily (approximately 7 years). It is very sturdy. It does not have any side rings though.

She’ll make anything you want. I have halters and leads from her and I’ve had her custom make me a few things. Her prices are very reasonable.

I had her do a normal rope halter that has rings on the side nose knots so that I can attach reins to them.

This is what I ride in. I get great response from my horses and I’ve had the headstalls for about 6-7 years.

My halters have two loops off the knot, and I use that. I do have rings on the sides, but mine ride happier the other way. They neck rein and don’t require much in terms of pressure.
