Cross posted: A few friends and I are visiting Durango Colorado in July. We are looking for a few different places to ride in the mountains. We are all very experienced trail riders with our own horses, however, we will be leaving our horses at home. They are accustomed to a lower altitude so we will be leaving them at home.
We are looking for someplace to ride horses in the wilderness that does not necessarily encompass the nose to tail trail ride. We will need to use their horses. A pack trip in and out of the mountains is not necessarily out of the question. Does anyone have any suggestions for any place within a couple of hours of Durango? Looks like there are a lot of places to choose from - I’m not sure the dude ranch is a right for us since we already have some place to stay and are looking for a more challenging experience. Any suggestions are very much welcome!
