I can see kids from different regions showing in different regionals for the Maclay. I was trying to find out how that works, but couldn’t find the answer. Specifically I see kids from the north east showing in region 5? I’m just curious.
Yes, you can elect another region. Most often it’s kids riding in their trainers’ region (e.g., North Run’s kids all do Region 1, no matter where they are from). Sometimes juniors in their last year will elect the region where they have just started college, because they’ve taken their horse there with them. And others will cherry-pick, which sometimes works out and sometimes doesn’t.

You will see the very biggest BNTs spreading out their best students over the country for qualifiers so they have a good chance at getting as many into finals as possible. For example, at region five this weekend there are several from AD and also several from DS. I don’t know that any have actual connection to region 5, but somehow it’s permitted. I do think it works in the end.
