Riding instruction near Stockholm, Sweden? and/or Trieste, Italy?

Hi all, DH is co-organizer of a month long academic workshop in Stockholm next summer (2016), which will be followed by a week long conference in Trieste. I’m hoping to accompany him for a couple of weeks, and would love to take advantage of any riding education I can while in either place.

I’m guessing dressage will be easiest to find, but I’d also be open to show jumping or eventing instruction.

I was schooling Third Level before I got pregnant last year; had a baby and have a green horse now so am not doing so at present; likewise, it’s been quite a while since I jumped anything over 1m. I’d call myself a somewhat competent, though not phenomenal, amateur.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Trieste is near Lipica, Slovenia, where the Lipica Stud Farm is (birthplace of the Lippizan.) I similarly piggybacked on my DH’s business trip to the region a couple of years ago, and took some lessons at the Lipica stud farm. I was in between horses and trying to get into riding shape. I overestimated where I was at, and I took too many lessons in too short of a time frame. And I really worked in those lessons!

The lessons were reasonably priced, and the horses were cool - all Lippizans, some of them retired from the performances. It was a great experience getting to ride them, and cool to feel how they move. The instruction was decent but not exceptional. Instructors had varying fluency with English, and I felt like the “dumb American who thinks they can ride dressage” a lot of the time.

Giuseppe Utili is about an hour, by car, from Trieste. Excellent GP rider, his farm also does Pony Club and lessons for people of all levels so you shouldn’t be too out of your element.

Stromsholm is about 2 hrs west of Stockholm, west of Vasteras…great place to visit. Site of the Swedish National Equestrian Center.

Stayed in the dorms there…and learned about pyttipanna…basically a corned beef hash-like food…it was the only thing I could pronounce on the menu at the local kiosk.
