Riding pants for kids with sensory issues.

I have a riding lesson student with sensory issues. She hates jeans and anything tight. She’s been riding in joggers (sweatpants that get snug at the bottom) but it’s getting too hot here for them.

does anyone have any tips ? She’s in 4th grade so a kids large or women’s small.

My sensory kid that rides for fun wears Kerrits bootcuts a couple sizes to big. I take in the waist for fit. He also has a pair of hiking pants that work well for trail riding.

I’m all about accommodating but at some point we all have to learn to deal with things we don’t like to do things we love.

Any kind of legging or yoga pant will work fine, as long as it doesn’t feel too slippery.

I have two thoughts.

First idea is that they could go into a tack shop and find breeches with a fabric she finds comfortable/tolerable then buy a size or two up. The downside to this is that she would probably end up needing to wear a belt which she may not be comfortable doing.

My second idea is to find a pair of lightweight sweatpants. If she’s wearing traditional fleece sweatpants I’m sure there are other options. I did a quick google search and found this https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=381883022&vid=1#pdp-page-content

I’m going to go off the reservation and say put a full sheepskin on the saddle and then let her wear whatever she finds comfortable even shorts. Even if the pants are slippery they will stick to sheepskin.

I am autistic- I really like several styles of irideon tights. They are soft and stretchy- summer ones feel like yoga pants, winter ones feel like sweatpants.

Is it the tightness or is it the fabric feeling scratchy to her + the tightness? If so, I’d recommend Romfh. They are seriously the softest breech I’ve ever worn. If it’s the tightness you could go up a few sizes then tailor the waist to fit.

You could also try the bootcut breeches, as I think in general they’re cut a bit looser.

Try a range of riding tights, or old worn out sweat pants that are thin. Use either short boots and half chaps or get parent to sew and elastic stirrup that will hold the pants down. In summer I often ride in stretchy shorts and half chaps. You might have to tell the parent that normal exercise tights / leggings are not a good idea because they usually slippery.
