Riding with Candice King

Has anyone here ridden with Candice King? I’ll be doing EAP with her in a few weeks (yay for it being open to us amateur olds!) and would love to hear more about folks’ experiences with her.

I know she’s patient, kind, and a great teacher, but we all know every clinician has their little preferences and nitpicks, so I would love to hear more about her turnout preferences and pet peeves. I’ll be unexpectedly riding a horse who I don’t know at all, so wanting to have as much control of things as I can. :joy_cat:

You’ll be fine. Never cliniced with her but have watched her teach on off days and AM at shows, cant imagine shes changed. Not there to talk down or berate you, not as direct as AK or MST, but no warm fuzzy either.

My barn hosted EAP for several years but some time back, it was more rigorous and detail oriented then your typical clinic. Some of those kids are spectacular but others not so much so don’t sell yourself short here.

Details, details, details. Do you get to school the borrowed horse?

Yes! I actually tried him at his home farm on Friday and loved him. I’ll get a jump school in at our farm before we head out, so I’m not going in entirely cold like good old NCAA/IHSA days. :joy: I’ll be blogging about the week on the Plaid Horse—will share a link!

Thanks, love to follow…have FUN. EAP is a big deal to these kids and they are probably also doing the stable management course…something more then a few….ahhhh…need. Who is teaching that part?

Candice will be very direct and constructive, in a good way. No nonsense, and always helpful. Good luck and have fun!

I have ridden with her extensively. She is one of my favorite coaches and a great person. I cannot think of any weird pet peeves that she has. You will have a great time! Enjoy!

Edit: on turnout, just be neat.

While I haven’t ridden with her, I’ve been near her at the ring many times. She seems straightforward and constructive and is definitely someone I’ve thought “I wish I could ride with them!”
