Right Meow: Best source for Charles Owen Hampton Helmets, please?

Ok, old in my taste in helmets, crazy cat lady, and (therefore) not sleuthy enough at internet shopping. Where’s the best source for these old skool helmets right now?

By Best I mean cheapest, but it-will-reliably-get-to-me. That means you savvy shoppers can consider international retailers, but let me know if any source tends to not deliver, as do some American websites that are just “jobbers” for merchandise that they don’t own.

Thank you!

I just saw them on the Dover site, and they’re offering free shipping and a free hat bag this weekend.

Old school solidarity.

Thank you. A Hampton would be $201 from them. Can I do better with a British retailer? And how does a CO 2000 or Fiona compare in fit? Those are two more Velvet Oldies.

I don’t know about the fit or price comparisons. The one thing I noticed is that it looks like the newer Hampton has a plastic clasp on the left side, while the Fiona has the more old school hook and snap closure on the right. I am pretty darn right handed, so that would be a factor for me. Your mileage may vary.

It looks to me as if the Hampton has a lower profile than the other two. I have always liked the Hampton. The other two to me aren’t as attractive. Don’t know anything about fit comparisons.

If you happen to be a 7 1/2, you can get one at Dressage Extensions for $149.99.

Of course, you can always order both/all three this weekend while they’re on sale, keep the one you like best, and return the other ones.

Right, but isn’t that impractical when they come from British retailers? Because, so help me, I would do that. But I have become greedy and entitled to free shipping.

So close… yet no cigar. I need a 7 1/4 . or 59 cm. They don’t have that size. D’oh!

If you were me, would you order a 7 3/8ths?

I cannot. Bummer. And I think I saw that a bit ago when they still had a 7 1/4.

I would not. CO padding compresses substantially in the first few months as you break it in. You could err on the small side, but I wouldn’t go large.

The lower price on one from the UK might seem nice now but there’s also value in getting a nice helmet replacement price from a local store if your helmet meets with an accident. Or has a manufacturer’s defect and you want to return it. Get the 20% off this weekend and call it good. Get your discounts on other things.
