Ring Drags - Sand Footing

Looking for some ideas for a ring drag for non engineered footing.

What does your drag look like? What do you like or not like about it?

Thanks!

Depending how firm it is and what your discipline is you have several options

Some folks use a regular harrow. It smooths the surface and doesn’t dig up the footing so the sand stays firm

Some folks use a heavy steel roller to smooth and compact the sand

I have an ABI arena rascal. It “cuts” the sand at the base and then rakes it behind. I like this for my more coarse sand. At my other farm I have finer sand and I use a dragon fly with just tines and the roller to compact it. I also alternate w a steel drum roller.

My discipline is hunter jumper. I want the footing stable and firm w some cushion on top.

If I built it myself (as if I could hahah), I would have something w fine tines to sift the sand followed by a heavy roller to compact it back down.

I just purchased an ABI TR3-E series. I have stone dust, but I think you could use this with sand as well. It has a blade that smooths and compacts the subsurface, and fluffs the surface. I like that the subsurface is consistent.

That is what we have, but the older model.
It works well for our finer sand footing.
