Ringworm help

The new horse has what appears to be ringworm on her girth area. First day here she shares my geldings girth ( I know, should not have done that, but too late now) and now he has it too. The vet has been out and confirms it is most likely ringworm but didn’t have any anti fungal cream with him, hope to get it next week. For now spraying with a 1:10 bleach solution. Can anyone recommend any tried and tested remedies? Thanks!

I have used lotrimin for ringworm. It worked on my mini. And on me, too, when I caught it from him .
I got the cheap generic stuff at Walmart, it was like $1.99 a tube.

Decades ago, all we had was a bleach solution and did fine with it for most horses with just one application, other than spots we may have missed first time around.

By the time you get the cream you may be in the clear.

If a horse doesn’t clear up, I would start worrying about it’s immune system not being up to par and he would need more aggressive treatment, but that is very, very rare.

Old farm remedy was iodine scrubbed on the mark with a toothbrush. Applied once daily. Do the spot and surrounding hair to stop the ring from spreading. Usually takes about 2 weeks to kill the stuff, and not see anymore spreading. It has worked in clearing up ringworm for me.

As mentioned, be careful not to catch it yourself, very contagious so latex gloves are recommended during treatment. We used diluted bleach to spray stall walls, any possible rubbing place, each day. This to prevent horse getting ringworm in other body locations, leaving ringworm to get on someone at a later time.

Shop owner swore this cleared up his ring worm he got from his cows.
