RIP Authentic

Can’t believe I missed this earlier. 30 years is nothing to snuff at, and boy did he have the nicest retirement home ever.

His performance in Hong Kong with Beezie will always standout in my memory.

Very sad news. But he had a long, fantastic life.

My heart goes out to the people at JMS who treated Authentic as the king he was for 30 years. Beezie, John, Clark and Sue, thank you for the golden straw, the morning naps, the calmness and the strolls. It was a thrill to see him come out on top before the Final Four in 2006, when even Jos Lansink admitted Beezie should have had the title. (Which she did TWICE by the way, with Cortes C also). And while he was by Guidam, he was such a thoroughbred amongst the titans. Then foster father to so many foals. The coolest uncle. I hope he has found Clark and Dr Steele by now. All sorely missed.

Authentic and Beezie were an amazing pair. I love the Maddens’ retirement set up for their oldies. Sounds like he got to live a really great life after he retired, and man 30 is really amazing.

He’s not likely to get his own thread but we also lost Indoctro this week, at 35 years young and still looking quite fine. Two absolute legends, both enjoying long, beautiful lives. Best rest to them both

My god in that April 5th photo, he still looks handsome and alert as ever. He was kept in fantastic shape (unsurprisingly and as he should have been). What a legend indeed.

Maybe all the babies he helped raise in his field kept him young.

I may have posted these pictures before, but a friend of mine had a couple of youngsters there at the Madden farm who spent time with him.

They are both turning into very nice young horses, with multiple championships at WEF and WEC. So they must have been getting good advice from Authentic that whole time.

I LOVE that photo of Bud in the wild. I’d have to restrain myself from putting unrealistic expectations on any colt that grew up with him.

So far, they have been stepping up to the plate. Fingers crossed! Knock wood! Etc., etc.

There are also some fabulous pictures of Bud out in his field in the Facebook post the Maddens put up about him.

It’s really heartwarming to see the whole span of his life from Olympic gold medalist to furball in the snow.
