So she had a foal? Wonder what the foal’s status is.

He survived.

I believe the foal is fine. They kept her alive until he was here.

I hope she did not suffer a lot, keeping her alive until she foaled.

Incredibly sad.

She always gave everything. And after 25 wins and nine foals
 She literally did.

Very sad news.

Does anyone know how her previous offspring did at the track?

The amount of absolute sanctimonious bullsh!t being posted by people who wouldn’t know a horse from a hamster - murdered, raped, abused - is mind boggling.

ABC - our left wing media - posted an entire article decrying the fact she was twitched during breeding, implying that in doing so she was forcibly raped and abused. They didn’t give a toss about any other factoid of the horse industry
just that twitch, and the fact that her colts would also go on to “cover” (rape - that is the exact implication) mares.

FFS.

Nothing. Not one has been any good.

Her owners kept all her foals. One went to auction and they bought her back.

Interesting. And a little odd? I would have thought they would breed her to the very best.

Thanks.

She wasn’t necessarily bred to did studs
.
Most really good race mares don’t reproduce themselves, unfortunately.

This article has not updated that her recent foal out of Snitzel has died

Sorry to hear that her story won’t have one final chapter. Godspeed to both of them.

I am really curious. Did they c-section this foal? One article that I read said that a drug that they had given the mare for “milk fever” likely caused the laminitis. Was the foal to term? I ask because allowing the mare to be in pain would be hideous, but losing both would have been awful. And now, it is.

It was so sad to read of Black Caviar’s passing. I know she was being used as a broodmare, but does 9 foals seem a bit much? It would have been nice if she could of had some time to just be a horse and not have to carry another foal all the time. It would seem that after all she did on the track, the owners could have eased up a bit on the breeding of her. Sad to lose her for sure.
