oh sad. I remember her from the 70’s at Wayne. And the wooden dogs that sided a coop jump as decoration. ‘Misfit’ friends  It was a good time! I remember Joan Hamill yelling out ‘atta boy’ jumping through the woods at Wayne.

Katie was an amazing woman who contributed so much to the sport. She will be sorely missed.

I was very sorry to hear this news. Katie made so many contributions to this sport, and to this forum, where she used to be an active contributor who was happy to share her knowledge and opinions in a very straightforward way.
I think of Katie most as the organizer of the Wayne HT. There she was, in the idle of the country in an area not known for eventing, putting on a truly world-class competition at Lamplight Equestrian Center.
As a Colorado-based eventer, I first traveled there with a group of friends to run intermediate. My friends had been before and knew what to expect, but I couldn’t believe my eyes. Lamplight is (was?) a beautiful facility, so the dressage and show jumping rings were presented beautifully, on wonderful footing. But it was XC day that really blew us away: The crowds who came out to watch and cheer were the biggest any of us had ever seen, as competitors. It made us all feel very special and fancy, like we were running our own little Rolex.
I returned with a friend the next year for both of us to do our first advanced there. We camped out of my friend’s trailer, I was competing as well as covering the event for COTH to pay a little bit of the bill; we had no trainer, just each other. In short, we were small potatoes. But Katie remembered us from the year before and was so kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome. She was the heart of that event.

Wow, I missed this in November. I never met her, just knew she ran Wayne HT.
