RIP Kwik-Out Stirrups?? What to do now?

From all the info I could gather online Kwik out stirrups no longer exist. I can’t find them anywhere, and my local tack shop can’t even figure out who the manufacturer was.

I LOVE my Kwik outs, they look exactly like normal stirrups but break away if your foot gets caught. My 2 pairs are both very worn and the foot bed is totally gone. You can’t put another brand’s footbed on it because of the spring action.

What am I to do?? I really don’t want to ride in peacock stirrups.

Super glue sand paper where the stirrup pad was?

When I googled Kwik Out Stirrups, I got plenty of listings including this one:

They seem readily available through a number of tack stores. Perhaps their demise is premature.

What’s wrong with peacock stirrups? They’re so cool that even I use them!

For a mere $400 more you could buy FreeJumps.

When I try to actually BUY them it says they are sold out.

…and if you follow the link you posted they aren’t even actually listed for sale.

Regular stirrups with Swiss Clips. Go the the Waldhausen website, then horse, then saddle accessories. They are not cheap but they last, work really well, and are fairly unobtrusive.

ETA I don’t like Peacocks because they’re so badly balanced. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when Qwikouts came out. Then I bent 2 pairs. Then I found Swiss Clips and now know I’ve gone to stirrup heaven lol.

Very interesting. Will have to find me some of those I think. Thanks.

I believe these types of stirrups caused a pretty horrific injury to an eventer’s horse when the quick-release part impaled her horse. If i’m not mistaken, it was covered here on COTH.

The Swiss Clips look great. Where do you get them?

Try talking these guys into shipping?

Or get them here:

I saw that Another Turn Tack and Apparel in Purcellville, VA has a pair of 4 1/4 Kwik Outs for $49.

I was told by the manufacturer they are for sure done (maybe they’re working on improving the design somehow). I just sold my last pair, otherwise I’d have given you an awesome deal… they had been sitting on the shelf for a loooong time.

I’ve seen them in action (good luck for the girl who was using them), and they popped right open. I think the likelihood of them impaling the horse is pretty slim, but obviously not impossible.

I’m also interested in the Swiss Clips. Are they sold in the US anywhere?

This tack store looks like a good place to start looking for the Swiss Clips:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Swiss-Clip-Patented-Quick-Release-Clip-for-Stirrup-Irons-/281486386126?nma=true&si=6EBoz93tEEadrU7MWHeWvCw3sqI%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Phone number at bottom of listing.

Oh, and website:

http://store.skylandssaddlery.com/

They had two to sell and they’ve sold them both, and none on the regular store website. Too bad!

I really like the Swiss Clips! It would be nice being able to use different stirrups (lighter ones or flex stirrups).

I’ve e-mailed a couple of tack shops to see if they’ll ship to the US.

I use the “Foot Free Stirrups” http://www.doversaddlery.com/foot-free%3F-stirrup-irons/p/X1-0702/

I actually like them better than the Kwik-Out types. Seems like a lot of Irish foxhunters use them as well as William Fox Pitt.

Someone on English Tack Trader on Facebook has 2 pair of 4 and 3/4 inch Kwik-out stirrups for sale right now.

Right, but they obviously CAN get them, so a call in to see if they can get more could be worthwhile

Thanks. It’s interesting because my local tack store is listed as a retailer on the manufacturer’s website, but they don’t have them in stock either. They’re looking into getting them in stock.

The Swiss Clips seem like such a great idea, but it looks as though they simply haven’t been marketed at all in the U.S.

I use this one. Not the same as Kwikout, but I am hoping that my foot will slide out in an emergency.
