RIP to him, he was a legend in racing.
Sad to see another Canadian great go on to greener pastures. Rest in peace Ron.
Thanks for posting that clip.
He had an incredible career, and that may have been the pinnacle.
He was a class act and a helluva rider.
"Turcotte also would ride Hall of Famers Arts and Letters, Dahlia, Damascus, Dark Mirage, Fort Marcy, Northern Dancer, and Shuvee in addition to the Meadow Stable stars. He captured his first Triple Crown race with Tom Rolfe in the 1965 Preakness Stakes "
Wow.
Some of the greatest names in racing, and that includes Ron Turcotte.
RIP.
Gift link to the Times article, which has lots of details about his life:
Thanks for that article, @MHM.
I never knew his backstory, how poor his family was in NB and how he came to be a jockey, or about his advocacy for people with spinal cord injuries.
You’re welcome.
The Times usually does a deeper dive than most, so it’s always interesting to find out more about someone’s life story.
Iconic shot of him looking over his shoulder.
RIP
Thank you for sharing that
