RJ Classic soft shell coat

Has anybody tried this coat??

I’m dying to get a softshell for the jumper ring, and I tried this one from Smartpak, but thought it was a bit long for me…and I didn’t really like the pocket zipper placement.

So I was looking at the first one, thinking it might be the shorter length that is similar to the Grand Prix Quinn, which I have and really like, but want something with a slightly heavier fabric.

Does the RJ Classics site ever have promo codes? Right now the shipping alone would be about $20, which is really discouraging me from ordering it to try, and I can’t find this jacket at any other website. Wondering if anybody has firsthand experience they can share. Thanks!

I have an older (one of the first, it’s only a year old though) RJ soft shell that is a slightly heavier but washable fabric.
Grand Prix jackets are a little closer to what you’re looking for.

I have the second one you posted (from smartpak) and absolutely LOVE it!! I was skeptical of the zipper pockets, but found them very flattering on my 12 yr old boy body shape. I have recieved many compliments on it and it is the most comfortable, best fitting jacket I’ve ever owned. It fits like a custom. Now, if I could only win the lottery so I can replaced all of my wool coats with these!!

Not meaning to hyjack this post, but I have been debating buying the second coat you posted, so thank you for posting Is it conservative enough to wear for hunters? I really think the zipper pockets would look flattering and reduce a lot of bulk.

I wear it in every ring. I currently have it the black tonal, but the patterns are so subtle in every color they are hardly noticable. Hands down a fantastic buy, well worth the money, and I would highly recommend them.

How is the sizing? Thanks!

I have this one and love it, I wear it in the hunters at AA shows and it’s perfectly fine. It runs true to size, I got the same size that I take in regular RJ Classics jackets.

There is a less expensive version of this coat - we have the kid’s version and LOVED it though my kid outgrew it after 2 wears. Totally classic looking

I like this one better - 1. the price, 2. I prefer 3 buttons. This coat looks more like a traditional show hunt coat.

true to size and it has stretch

I have one (soon to be 2) and I will also throw in that I love them as well! Although, one of mine is childs size, and I did find that they are pretty snug, and I had to go up a size.

So I tried the one from Smartpak - getting ready to send it back, I just thought it was a bit too long for the jumper look, if that makes sense…I liked the fabric, but was looking for something a tiny bit more streamlined, especially for my not so boyish frame…anyone know where you can find it, other than the RJ site?

Can I hijack this thread a second and ask why these soft shell coats are SO freakin’ expensive? Are they made of like unicorn tails or something?

OP, this isn’t from the manufacturer. Is this the coat you mean?

Call farmhouse, they’ll help you a lot.

Because it costs more to make the washable fabric and they’re the latest in demand trend.

It has nothing to do with cost, but you are right-on with the demand. This is what’s known as a ‘skimming strategy’ or a ‘willingness-to-pay’ in pricing terminology.

People, apparently, (me included) are willing to pay a lot of money for a little more comfort and a little less sweat.

I am absolutely willing to pay an extra 150 for something I can throw in the wash that fits like a glove and doesn’t make me want to play in the water jumps after my class.
Though for some reason I think I remember someone telling me they were more expensive to make than wool coats because the wool is a common fabric but the soft shell tech is not as widely sold? Or something to that point. Honestly doesn’t matter to me. If you buy one that fits you and doesn’t make you look like a breakfast meat, then it’s a trend that I hope lasts.

I looked it up and it’s 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex. $8.00 a yard online. So it probably doesn’t have anything to do with the cost of production.

I just hope that someone comes out with a soft shell coat that’s in a reasonable price range. I’m all for a coat that is made of more athletic material, but the markup on these is ridiculous.
