Robaxin Dose and is "Generic" Robaxin the same?

Vet suggested 10-15 pills of robaxin 750mg per day, that works out to be about 15-20mg/kg.

For chronic, possible muscle stiffness in lumbar region. Sound, happy horse but “tight” hind end.

Does this dose seem a little high? Never used it before, wouldnt mind becoming more educated!!!

No because as dispensed - Robaxin is a human drug. The insert says that people should take 6 grams a day for the first 48 to 72 hours, thereafter the dosage can be reduced to about 4 grams a day.

Dosage for humans 500mg pills 3 tablets 4 times a day, maintenance 2 tablets 4 times a day. 750mg pills 2 tablets 4 times a day, maintenance 1 tablet every 4 hours or 2 tables three times a day.

I got the information from the insert of a bottle of Robaxin that my vet sold me for my horse. It is all in human dosage.

How big is your horse? That is the dose I use for my very large 17.2 draft cross (13 of the 750mg pills 2x/day, which is roughly equivalent to 20- 500mg pills BID).

Most of the time for “normal” size horses  my vet prescribes 10 500mg pills BID, but for my guy’s size suggested 20. Because that was a large number of pills to try to get him to eat in a small amt of feed (air fern), I got the 750mg tablets.

Pharmgirl - hes not very big, about 500kg. So, I guess the 10-15 750’s once daily sound about right if youre guy is getting that twice daily?

Apparently its pretty safe and has a very wide theraputic index so doesnt sound like this dose will kill him afterall. And if he feels as good as I do after robaxin…well, isnt he in for a treat haha!!

Sounds fine. When the vet prescribed it for my former eventer, to help with fibrotic myopathy of the hamstrings, he had us give 20 pills 2 x day.

Does anyone use Generic Methocarbomyl (sp?) instead? Appears to be quite a bit of a cost savings! I know not to get it with ASA or Ibuprophen.

Yes, for horse and human. Note to self…do not take Methocarbamol on XC day.
Looking at my Metho bottle, it is a 500 tablet bottle, 500mg tablets, $80. My vet’s Rx for my TB was “20 pills twice a day for 7 days then 15 pills twice a day for 7 days”. The manufacturer’s label says “2-4 tablets four times daily”, obviously marked for human consumption.

I like 3 pills 3 times a day till I can move again. 4 would make me gaga.

Yes, I’ve been using generic methocarbamol. Seemed to work just fine :).

Picked up Robaxin over the counter while in Canada just to keep around the house for us humans. Wish they sold it over the counter in the US.

And when I have gotten it for horses, it has always been methocarbomal.

Which stores carried it? I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and they didnt have any. (Yep, in Canada). I can order some in…but was hoping to start using it this weekend.

I can’t actually remember getting “robaxin” it’s been off patent for so long. The generic is just fine.

Different doses for different issues, but just remember that dose exceeds the USEF approved dose for showing (non FEI).
