Denali was banned perhaps last August after a rant clearly violating forum rules. I didn’t see it, but it was mentioned on a fairly recent CE thread in which “The Moo” participated but was banned when the admins decided “The Moo” was an alter for Denali.
I miss Denali.
Something I don’t understand about being banned: how hard is it to set up a new email, etc and set up a new account if you really want to get around the ban?
Whoa. I missed Denali getting banned. I’m pretty sure she and the Moo were 2 different posters though.
And I do think Viney was the person who went on a bizarre rant about children… that was really really bizarre. So was her fixation with saying rude things about a certain beloved TB stallion who is now deceased. That was really really odd too.
I have a general outlook that if a rule is flat out unenforceable, in a lot of circumstances it is better to jettison the rule instead of pretend that you can enforce it.
It’s sort of like the logic of “If owning guns is a crime, only criminals will own guns”. If posters who break forum rules are banned, and it’s easy to sneak back on, only the most rule breaking banned posters will come back, the comparatively rule abiding banned posters will stay banned.
Now, I don’t think that gun laws are unenforceable, and am definitely in favor of stronger gun laws.
I think this forum was pretty important to Denali. I wonder if she has snuck back on, so I’ll need to check your join date, BrendaJane.
One theory was that TheMoo was an alter that was used at different times by different banned posters. This is consistent with the fact that Denali and TheMoo appeared together on some threads before Denali was banned, and, as I remembered it, had quite different personas.
However, in the thread in which TheMoo was banned, after the fact, I realized that in that thread TheMoo did sound like Denali, and different from the previous Moo.
So I think you’re right that Moo and Denali were two different posters for most of Moo’s posts.
I looked back at the post by the Mod stating that TheMoo was Denali.
After the reveal, one poster, Equkelly, who described herself as a victim of Denali said she was “thankful” Denali was banned (again) because of Denali’s “toxic bullying”.
THAT poster was banned six weeks later. Not from the whole forum, but from CE.
I don’t think it’s hard, but apparently when you create a new account it is hard to refrain from the behavior that got you banned in the first place. So people start complaining about you again and then the Mods probably check your IP address and determine that you are a previously banned poster.
OK. It actually seems sort of appropriate that if you come back as a new screen name and new, better behaved persona, that you should be allowed a second chance.
I agree that most people who had been banned would not have the self control to stick with an artificial persona when arguments get “heated”.
