A good friend of ours has a Roc baby out of a Graf Goetz Hano mare that we just bought from her. The mare is amazing over fences and with a dad like Roc, she thinks he’s going to a awesome. He’s chestnut with chrome in the rear to the hocks, so he’s not bad on the eyes either
He is what I wanted. A classic old hunter type. Very TB’y like momma! I am not a big fan of the bulky WB hunters. He has a good mix in him!
I have to say, like all the Roc’s I have seen, he has an amazing canter.
I can’t wait to start him next year. He just has a huge slow motion canter that looks so smooth!

You mean the porky look?! I’ve actually heard them grunt over fences.
I have a WB/TB cross 2 yr old filly that (you got me started on this!) I am heavily considering breeding to Roc next year. Mainly b/c they both have the ‘same’ Turn-To TB bloodlines, both on the bottom dam lines. I would like to keep that TB blood infusion and the match is so strong w/ Roc. She is totally a hunter type in movement and I want to breed type to type with her. She’s black bay w/ some chrome and the genetics for chrome, also.
Now that the hunter derbies are establishing more forward pace in hunterland, may…beeee we will see a move to IMHO a better horse. Myself, I really enjoy seeing a horse that moves out freely where I can see the change in stride length, without quickening, and that beautiful stretch that comes with a slightly leaner type of horse. It is so eloquent. And the collections are prettier too. The roundness comes from the frame, not the fat. I’d rather see fit muscle than overfed. As in, I’d like to be able to ‘see’ the muscle! (this brings to mind the poster here who stated - I like my soapbox, it’s comfy and even has some nice cupholders). Wonder if she’s got a two-seater
Split Rail Inspection
We had our Inspection yesterday and what a day it was. My girl Rinka took part in the Mare Performance Test and was awesome. After everything was done and we were chatting with Christian and Lisa from ISR/ Old NA, Christian mentioned that he thought Rinka’s score was one of if not the HIGHEST score in the MPT. She scored a 79.1. My little girl gets better and better.
Rocafeller pictures!
Now, I can’t take credit for the whole thing, I had to ask some fellow cothers how to actually upload this picture/video.
It worked and here it is! I can’t believe Ace will be 2 next month! Time flies!
He is doing great. I plan on taking him to 2 HB shows in March and then the IHF finals in Del Mar again in August and then back out to pasture!!
He is about 15.3 now and is starting to slow down his growth. (thank God!) Hopefully he won’t be bigger then 16.2.
How are all your Roc’s doing? Jumper rider, you never posted more pics of your “twins” I would love to see them!
Congrats again on all the successful offspring this year. I am sure Roc is very proud. (and Nancy of course!)
Heres his ihf 2 year old undersaddle update
Here’s mine this summer when he was an early yearling.

he’s HUGE. He’ll be 2 at the very end of April and he’s already got to be 16-16.1hh and he’s way butt high yet. I’m 5’10" and his wither is barely below than my eye level. I’m hoping he finishes around 17hh. He’s a doll!

Nice slideshow Sam. He’s a cutie for sure
Harold  that’s a big beautiful boy!
desilu, just read your blog. i am so sorry you lost your beautiful mare!!! Your boy looks just like her. That is great that you still have him. Good luck with Sammy! He looks like he is doing great!
I haven’t decided if I am going to try and ride Ace this year or not. I may wait until next year. Depends on my work schedule!
Thanks Sam - loosing Lily was devastating and I’m very glad I have Sammy to help fill some of the void. Sammy has a date to be backed the 3rd weekend in March - he’ll be 3 on April 3rd so I suspect it is time. Good luck with Ace, I’m very partial to all the Roc kids now that I’ve seen quite a few in person. Lily would have had a date with him for sure at some point. Looking forward to hearing all about your new adventures.
Ace had a nephrosplenic entrapment (colon flipped over his spleen) last feb. I almost lost him. I can certainly understand what you felt for her. It is very hard. But horses bring so much joy and it is a blessing you have Sammy! I am so thankful that Ace made it through and I still have him!
Its funny because some of your pictures in your blog are so similiar to ones I have taken of Ace. They are so funny when they are babies.
He is at my friends now and her barn is on a hill. She puts them out all day and in at night. She says when she takes him down to the pasture in the morning she has to hide behind the other horse she is walking because he is so wild. Then when she brings him in she literally has to drag him. He can barely move after playing with his boys all day!
Good luck with riding Sammy! I don’t have a round pen either and we will be doing his first ride on a lunge for sure!
My ROC is officially two! Here he is:

Just wanted to update.
Ace is now 2! Can’t believe it! (since Feb. 23rd!)
I have started to long line him and literally the first day he had it down. I was going to do it for a month before I try to get on him, but he is already doing everything I ask. So now I am not sure what to do!!
He is back with his mom and it is so cool to see them together! He looks like dad, but moves just like mom with double the stride!
Love him and can’t wait for the IHF show in September!
He is about the same size as mom now, but double the width! Bigger bone and much wider!
Here they are…
I know this is an old discussion topic but I just had to write and let you know how helpful I found all of your posts. I was looking to purchase a younger horse for my daughter and then one of the 3 year old Roc babies in the barn became availalbe to us. Reading the posts here really helped me solitify my decisions to buy. My 12 year old daughter and her new 3 year old Roc mare have been together for about 3 months now and it has gone far better than I ever could have imagined. They are just the cutest pair and both are coming along SO fast. My daugher is a strong rider for her age but had never worked with a baby. We have them both working in a full time training program with very experienced trainers. It is amazing how sweet, willing, sane, and talanted this mare is. I am so thankful we grabbed the opportunity when we got it and can’t wait to see where they end up.
By the way, whoever posted that Roc babies start off the day where they ended the prior one (good and bad) was absolutly correct. Fortunelty for us 99% of the time this mare is good.
Congrats! Have to say I love my 2!
Very smart and very talented.
Good luckmwithnyour 3 year old! My older guy is 4 this year and I can’t wait to show him in the baby greens this fall!
All the horses in these pics are lovely. I have to say I know one very not good looking ROC baby - eek - maybe mama had the ugly gene. And he is wee. Gotta say I love ACE - he is gorgeous!
Yeah, you want to breed a mare with a pretty head to him.
I just had a new colt that is a full brother to Ace this year. His name is Louie. His show name will be Ratatouille.
He looks just like his grandpa Idocus. He is gorgeous!
Has a heart shape on his face and grey eyes!
Love him already.
I will have to sell one of them and he is making this a very hard decision!!
Here is a picture of him…

And now…
And so you know, Ace was my mares first foal. He is 4 this year and already 16.2.
My colt born this April is huge already! He will easily be 17 hands. And man, does he have a bounce in his step!
Love my Roc’s! If I could afford to I would breed to him every year!
One thing he consistently produces is talent!
My Roc boy is 4 now and is at the trainer for 90 days, learning how to be a big boy. I can’t wait to have him back at the end of the summer! Trainer says he has settled in well and goes right to the jumps.
Post pictures!
