Just stumbled upon this guy. Very lovely stallion. http://www.rodioso.com/ Anyone have get by him? Looking for more information about the jump. Owner is sending me video of him with some jumping footage, but also wondered about his ability to sire jump.
Bumping up.
Anyone?
Nothing to add but he is lovely! I think there is someone here that has had a foal by him. Not 100% certain on that though.
I think of him as more of a dressage type. I knew his former owner, who imported him, in Massachusetts, and her intent was definately dressage. He also has the blood lines. Did she tell you what his jumping index was?
We have 2 half Arabs by him that we bred. 4 and 5 years old. Best horses we’ve ever had and will never be for sale. I think the reason you don’t hear more from him is that he is ridden by his owner and not heavily promoted, although he has done very well for himself. We don’t compete but Jump is no problem. Furioso II is well represented.
Does anyone have his inspection results? He is a very nice looking stallion.
I saw Rodioso in Germany as a coming 4 y/o where his owner rode him in a lesson in a small indoor arena with a mare also in the arena. He was a perfect gentleman, very well behaved and stayed focused on his rider. He had a quiet, calm, and friendly temperament and I thought he was quite charming. He had been licensed the previous year at the Oldenburg main licensing event, where he received - IIRC - a 9 for type and conformation; he also received a 10 for character and high scores for temperament and rideability at his 100DT in Germany. He has since then had very good success in hand (including winning the stallion championship at Devon), and is showing successfully at FEI dressage. He is also tied for 11th place for siring premium Oldenburg (GOV) foals. He’s a nice boy.
We have him in the Oldenburg stallion service auction - http://oldenburghorse.auctionanything.com .
We are expecting a Rodioso in the spring from our foundation mare, Reel Proper (aka Top Secret). Semen was very good. Owner very easy to deal with.
All these things are putting him high on my consideration list for the future, but want to hear more about JUMP! Anyone?
Does anyone know why he was sold?
Having seen him up close and personal (ie, smooched his nose when doing the late night barn check at a show - he was in the stall immediately behind my stallion and was SUCH a good quiet boy!) he is a lovely, elastic, balanced mover. Haven’t seen his jump, but he’s certainly built to do anything in the sporthorse world.
His owner is totally in love with him, and youngsters I’ve seen by him are very nice.
Who said he was sold??/

Does anyone know why he was sold?[/QUOTE]
Rodioso has been with his current owner since 2004. Prior to that, he was owned by Dr. Jan Williams, who had purchased him in Germany at the Oldenburg stallion licensing. Jan is a bio-chemistry PhD and not only was teaching college at the time (head of the chem dept., I believe), but also running a farm and had a family. I guess she felt she couldn’t adequately meet those demands and also do justice to training/competing/promoting/standing a young stallion. Pam Pentz (Rodioso’s current owner) had just lost her own aged stallion, so Rodioso went to live with her.
I just love this stallion. Hope that anyone expecting a foal will post pictures upon arrival.
Did you get the video yet LH? Very interested in the JUMP as well!
not yet!
seems more a dressage horse than a “jump” horse - lovely to look at, another of the growing list of handsome black stallions here!
why not find out his scores for jump at his inspection? - that would help determine if he is indeed bred more for dressage or a more all rounder. I look for scores 120 or above - but I like more emphasis on “jump” than dressage.
Do you know how to go about getting his inspection scores? Can you look them up online?
Although he may be more or a dressage horse, some of the R-line horses have a nice jump for the hunter’s, which is what I would be looking for. My guess is that ladybug would also be looking at him as a hunter-sire rather then a jumper-sire.
Yes, doesn’t need to have the scope for top jumpers, but some talent would be nice.
I have a lovely Rodioso coming three year old gelding…solid black. He is by Claim to Fame’s dam…her last foal! He is drop dead gorgeous (as she was) and as quiet and sensible as they come. I won’t start him under saddle until next fall (his true birthday is June),.
I’ve taken him to two hunter breeding shows in his life…his first one he was Reserve Champion “Best Young Horse”:…his second one he was “Best young Horse” (at Jacksonville…beating Zeza Vue (or however you spell it), who I believetied for a s2007 national championship or something (I didn’t keep up with it this year). He beat her both times out…
I’ve had many offers to sell this guy, but he’;s one I’ll start myself (he’ll be SO easy) and get showing before I offer him. I can’t speak to how he will jump…but I expect him to be a conformation HUNTER…
Also, I don’t think Rodioso is HUGE…probably 16.1…but I do LOVE the R-line (Rubenstein)…A horse I ride, Debonair, is a Rubenstein grandson and he’s evented, was a Centennial Field Hunter for the foxhunters (that was a BIG deal), trailrides , is fantastic in dressage and I plan to do A/O’s with him this year!! I wouldn’t say he’s the BEST JUMPER, but he is an Awsome fun, safe, pretty and all around great guy!!!

I wanted to share his weanling photo after branding and a photo I took of him on 4/22.
