It looked to me like Rodrigo’s stirrups only had one vertical bar and that it was on the inside. That is to say, there was no outside bar. Is this some kind of safety stirrup or were my eyes playing tricks on me? (I guess if your lower leg never moves it probably doesn’t matter whether your stirrup has an outside bar or not :lol:).
Nope, not a trick of the eye. He’s been using those for quite some time now. I remember a thread a while ago on the H/J forum about them.
To me it seems silly but I suppose they are the adult version of safety stirrups?? :winkgrin:
You are right though-with a lower leg like his who needs 2 sides to a stirrup 
Actually their feet click in to the bottom part of the stirrup so that you can’t lose it. You need to get the sole of your boot changed so that it has the part to click in, it just seems like a lot of hassle to me.
I think that’s a new kind of safety stirrp. The boot actually clicks into the footpad of the stirrup like those bike pedals with the special shoes. I don’t think they are available is the US yet.
I haven’t seen his stirrups, but Kent Farrington rides with something similar if it isn’t the same. He also only has a vertical on the inside.
Anybody know whether any eventers use these?
How is that safe if you fall off? Does the stirrup unclick or release your boot?

Same technology at cyclists. They’re great! And they are very safe. If you rode a bike without clips (at the professional level) you’d be a fool.

Richard Spooner also used these stirrups! While they do look wierd it is a great idea I suppose! No losing stirrups and no hanging up if they have a spill etc! 
He was using them at Spruce Meadows… only improved his right leg, left one still swings back as usual.

Am I the only one who kinda thinks it’s cheating? I know, no rules against it, so not truly cheating. But keeping your stirrups is something a rider should be able to do, and this is a technology that does it for you…

I don’t think cheating, just not traditional. I just started using the bendy stirrups recently and that’s enough technology for me! Although I am worried if I ever fall off that my foot will get caught in the stirrup. But then again, I know myself and when I fall off, I usually go to the left and land on my feet!
