Roebke's Run Beginner Novice VS. Starter Cross Country Course?

I was wondering if anyone could attest to what the cross country course is like at Roebke’s Run. I’m planning on doing the 1-day horse trial in July and was wondering how their beginner novice course was - is it maxed out, is it an easy course…? The omnibus has little to say about it, and of course CourseWalk doesn’t have the BN course up for the horse trial they are having there this weekend so I can sample.

I’m trying to decide between going starter or beginner novice - it isn’t so much about my horse’s ability or my ability, but rather, my confidence in my ability. So I was hoping a review of the cross country course could help me make my decision.

I ran training last year at Roebkes and can’t say enough good things about the venue, the courses, the people-- it was fantastic and I’m sorry I missed it this year. I thought all the jumps were SO lovely and well made. Even though I was a different level, the course was very clearly designed to build confidence as you went around. Yes, there were appropriate level questions, but they often had a similar jump first… Examples are a false trakehner before the real one, and a jump before water before the second water which had a drop in. It was our first training and was great! If you have experience at BN I would say you’d be fine, and If this is a move up I think it’s a decent place to do it… As long as you are ready in other respects of course!

Thanks for the info @jumpsnake. I’ve been thinking of going to that event and am eyeing the one in July, although it has been turned into a one day, which would mean a seven hour trip one way just to compete one day. But I haven’t decided yet.

They allowed us to stay an extra night at no additional charge- we had a 16 hr drive! Really top notch people all around.

Great venue - you probably already decided what to do, but I ran BN there last year as my (and my mount’s) first event and felt it was very fairly set up. A number of fences will likely be close to maxed out for the division, but the course will be well designed and appropriate.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to go starter. I’m hoping to move up to BN someday lol.
