Rolled Leather Leashes with Rolled Handle/Loop

I’ve been wanting to get a leather leash for some time now but it appears that the ones that are rolled leather have a flat handle. Does anybody have any sources for a rolled leather leash with rolled handle? I find the rolled leather comfier to hold.

Any favorite sources of leather leashes or collars would be appreciated- my Bernese pupper is ready for the next (final) size up. Thank you in advance!

This one has a rolled handle:

I like Quillin for collars. Their rolled collar is lovely, but their raised collar is a step above. You have to call to order it, and they’re not inexpensive, but it’s one hell of a classy collar. I use the rolled ones for my young dogs and the raised ones for the grown ups.

They could probably also make you a rolled leash!

I really like the products I have gotten from Hogan Leather https://www.hoganleather.com/ (bonus the current review on the front page is a Bernese). I don’t think she has a stock rolled handle but since she makes rolled collars, she probably can do a custom handle too. The leash I have is pretty narrow so the flat handle fits fit - I have very small hands and tend to be picky.

(I love my rolled martingale, I put a RoadID Pet Tag on it so I can slip it on and off for shows and future dogs since it looks like it’s going to last forever)

Not inexpensive, but I love my collars from Schaaf: https://www.mcssl.com/store/schaafsaddleryleatherwork/dog-collars
I haven’t gotten a leash from Mr. Schaaf, but it looks like he’ll do a fully rolled leash - there’s a picture here: https://www.mcssl.com/store/schaafsaddleryleatherwork/07-stub-leash (look for “round leash” at the very bottom of the “Leash Type” drop down if the link didn’t work).

Thanks everybody! I knew I could count on Coth to return some great shopping sites! ;) The timing of posting this was perfect- my berner’s current collar is a 1/2" cotten lead rope-type material with a leather buckle, and after playing in the mud yesterday needs a good washing! One of the reasons I want to upgrade her is that leather stays cleaner and is easier to clean.

@Simkie - Quillan was the company I was trying to remember when I originally posted this!

@Knubbsy - Those products look awesome! I’m intrigued by the rolled combination collar- we use a training collar when we’re out and about as she gets very excited about people and maybe this collar would be a good alternative to her wearing 2. I would need to take it off when she’s unsupervised though, as I would worry about the choke ring catching on something. Hmmmm…

@bdj - I like those prices! The round leash is what I’m looking for! Hopefully it is as soft/flexible as it appears in the picture.

Thanks again!

there is something about a dog dressed in quality leather tack…I get comments on my dog all the time. (Like a good pair of shoes - sets the image off.)

A number of people in my classes switch collars for walks/training. Mine lives in her martingale except for herding because her neck-head ratio isn’t dramatic enough for the martingale loop to be big enough to be dangerous, it’s snug enough I have to hunt a bit in the obedience ring when it’s time to leash her. I do like that the metal on this martingale doesn’t discolor her fur, a couple friends have complained that martingales from other brands have caused grey discoloration. The leather came nicely conditioned too, not too much to be oily but I didn’t feel like I needed to soak it either.

Just a note - my Quillans rolled leather collar with nameplate on it came as raw light tan leather. In no time the oils in her coat had softened the leather to a nice dark warm soft leather, like good tack. The brass hardware is of top qualilty, too.

I highly recommend Hannah at Made2Measure in England. She handmakes (trained harness maker, she makes beautiful browbands, halters, etc, as well) whatever you want and I think she is very reasonably priced for the custom work she does. She will work with you on the design, measuring, etc. and is extremely responsive to emails. I had her make 2 martingales padded in different colors and with coordinating “bits of bling” for my agility dogs and couldn’t have been happier. But she can make any kind of collar you want with as much or as little adornment as you want. The quality of the leather is wonderful too. My collars are several years old now and have only gotten better with age as they have broken in.

I wanted one - so bought some leather cord and sewed it myself. A loop for handle one end and snap the other.

I’m late to the party, but Gary Mundy (of the best stirrup leathers ever) custom made me a dog leash with rolled handle a few years back. I wish I had pics to share, but it was absolutely gorgeous–and about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of what I was looking at online. I loaned it to a friend who was dogsitting for her son’s dog and it was eaten. I was not a happy camper…

I ordered one off Pear Tannery on Etsy, and am in love with it! I spent 2 days walking around with it, enjoying the leather smell :). I love how it feels when I take the dogs out for walks.

I will only do rolled leashes. Can’t stand holding the flat handle!

I have this one…

Very nice for the price and has held up for years.

My dog is always off leash on the farm, does not wear a collar except to go for walks, and would wear a non-leather martingale type leash/collar for agility-- but this has been in use for 3 years and still looks as nice as the day I bought it.
