Roma thinsulate stable blanket

Does anyone remember these? I have one that I got new in the mid 90s that I have loved! The insulation has finally clumped up too much inside to really be useful anymore :sob: What else is out there like it now? I can’t find anything really comparable and I really feel this hole in my blanket game! It was a perfect underlayer for warmth without weight or bulk.

Hijack/Hitchhike, hoping someone knows a current source for this type of blanket :crossed_fingers:

I had a Smartpak version almost 10yrs ago & gave it to a friend when the pony I got it for began to outgrow it.
Best.Blanket.EVER! in my opinion.
Light, warm, washable & wore like iron.

I have 2 of the Smartpak thinsulates too  One has similarly been outgrown but I still have it because you never know  They are not as thin as the Roma was (which I also very distinctly remember coveting in the Miller’s catalog so the pic of my new horse in his new Roma thinsulate circa 1996 is very special :sunglasses:).

I do remember those blankets…I used to love getting the Miller’s catalog and their blankets were terrific.
You might consider the Bucas 150 gram stable blanket…they seem very breathable and durable.

Oh yes, they did a thinsulate waterproof turnout that weighed nothing and which was the perfect warmth for an unclipped horse. I had one that I used until it was pretty much unrecognizable as a blanket.

I’ve hunted all over the Internet for an equivalent and never found one. My current horse would love one.

I loved mine. Very versatile, alone and layered. It lasted for years and finally, as yours, began to clump up inside. No ideas about similar, current products. You just brought back fond memories of one of my silly mares in her Thinsulate blankie so thought I’d comment. Good luck on your search.

Radon or Appointments USA have options.

Radon has their Equi-Lite:

Appointments USA:

Darn this thread is an amazing trip down memory lane.

Loved the Millers catalog and drooling over all the blankets.

Sorry OP, I realize this post is no help to you at all.

Thank you! I would never have heard of either of these companies. The Equi-lite does look pretty comparable. The custom price tag kinda hurts :grimacing: Do you have any experience with the quality of their products?

There is a Facebook group selling used blankets and an ISO might be worth it there.

Radon has been huge in the ASB/Arabian/Morgan world for many years but the company split a few years back, creating Appointments USA. I’ve heard that new Radon isn’t as nice as their older stuff - but I haven’t purchased anything recently. I’m going to order a cooler from Appointments USA after I make it past this vet bill slump.

Amigo Insulators stable blankets. Light and non-rubbing(at least with my mare). They come with the liner loops, so if you need to add warmth it’s just a matter of adding a liner. Also has the neck loops and neck, and a rain sheet fits overtop easily too.

I still have an early 90’s Everest thinsulate rug. I’ll never own another horse but I have a barn and won’t get rid of it - it fits EVERYTHING! I think it’s a 78". Tiny typey 950lb 75" TB? fits him. Chunky 1100lb 76" QH? Fits. Giant 1400lb 81" TB? Looks a little like mom shrunk his tshirt, but fits him. And it’s in perfect condition. Much better than our 1 and 2 year old rhinos and weatherbeetas.

Wow Everest! They were definitely made to last too

So I discovered that Dover/Riders had a Thinsulate sheet a few years ago. I just bought a used one from Poshmark  Never too late to make new memories, right?
